FYI: BP4W (99/00) head on a BP6D (01-05) block yields about 10:1 comp ratio. Emilio and the boys at 949 did this with their silver NB Rental a while back. Minor headwork, BP5A (MSM) cam, squaretop (UK/EU/JDM) manifold, header and a stand-alone and I believe they were making 140-150hp N/A?

Also, search harder: https://www.miataturbo.net/general-m...es-hurt-62851/ title is fitting and lolz. VVT engine on BP4W ecu is do-able.

I also did the 10:1+bp4w on my green 99 - result was a decent bump in power and it felt fantastic up top, but was a dog down low compared to the vvt motor I'm running now.
If you can get a vvt head, definitely do it. 99 ecu + vvtuner should work without too much wizardry (although you should just get ms3x and simplify things)

I can see why searching hasn't helped you: You need to actually read posts for them to help you.

Let me try to help you:

vvt doesn't do anything for peak power.

again

vvt doesn't do anything for peak power.

again

vvt doesn't do anything for peak power

Does that make sense?
It advances the intake cam at low rpm and helps torque at low rpm.

I'd still love to get my hands on a BP6D 10:1 bottom end, but I can't find anyone who is willing to split a block and a head for reasonable money

Done this swap in a 99 that needed an engine. Even without VVT wired up it made 120whp bone stock on our dynojet. Torque in the low teens.

I paid $700 for that motor with 80k on it with a warranty.

Its about the same price out on the left coast too, problem is that I don't need a head and I don't want to pay for another one.

Keep an eye out here: https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...nms-ecu-69111/

Brainy is going to hold my hand while I try to get a VVTuner working with my stock ECU
