Default Diy Intercooler Help

Alright guys, Im sure everyones sick of all my questions but its ok just HEAR ME OUT please ? lol So I want to get rid of my starion FMIC along with the jim b pipes and want to do something like this

the track dog racing style. I dont want to pay 1000 dollars for that IC kit so thats out of the question. I want my IC pipes to go down like that so that its not between the fan and motor. What kind of intercooler can i buy where it has the piping on top so i can slide it in and make it work. I was thinking of going one with a 2.5 inch core. Do you guys think thats thick enough?

I don't know the dimensions but you can find the correct intercooler on ebay that has the upward facing ports.

I've started on a semi-similar setup. I'll be starting with a small Audi/VW intercooler I picked up for $11 that has 2" inlet/oulet on the top. I'm lowering the radiator a bit and tilting it back. There's a thread by UofACats that shows basically what I'll be copying

This looks like the design you're looking for... you can probably find one cheaper: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FMIC-...mZ290089102566
It's got 2.5" inlet/outlet, but silicone couplers can easily be slipped over a hole .25" bigger if you decided to go with 2.25" piping. DON'T forget that the throttle body inlet is 2.5".

haha dre thanks for posting bro. It seems like "the fish" has a similiar setup. I'm definately going to be doing this setup and like loki i'm going to use the holes in the stock radiator support. Loki did you modify the hood?

call corky bell and go over the internal flow area volume with him, it should suffice.

You got 2.5" to fit under the hood without lowering the radiator???

Very curious....because I am planning a similar setup (using a 14 row starion intercooler with tig welded 2" in/out) and I would love to run 2.5'' as long as I don't have to modify radiator mounting.

I don't mind cutting the hood though....I figured that was a given

2.5" is overrated.

You're probably right....at my power level I am sure it is.

I have done a lot of research and I think that ideal would be 2" on the hotside and 2.5" on the coldside.....that is the only reason I want to do it.

But I am always open to suggestions and input......
