Yeah, they created universal levelling rather than just "win" achievements. It's okay, but it can be misleading since you get XP for losses. I've encountered lots of lvl 60+ guys who are just absolutely terrible. I'm level 12...

Just bought the game a few weeks ago, quite bad at it of course. I have however started watching a lot of SC2 WCS and MLG tournaments so I've picked up the general idea of things.

I'm really thinking I'd like to get HOTS but I'm not sure the best (cheapest) place to buy it. Any suggestions?

I'm also available if any other beginners want to learn together. It would be nice to have some actual people to play with once in a while. I've yet to even try ladder yet since I'm still ~65/35 win rate with medium AI. I think the info to add me is TacoPete and then 200 for the number thing.

If you play with us who have HOTS, we can give you access to it, even if you just have WOL.

Then we each get a cool new avatar.

What race are you playing, that will help determine who's casts to tell you to watch.

keep playing the AI for a while, or play unranked ladder games, not that your ranking matters. But what you need to learn is the mechanics of the game: hotkeys, standard openings, and how to properly macro; everything else is pointless at this point.

I can beat the AI on hard/expert with just 6 lings and rushing all my 10 drones.

obviously you should watch Whitera.

Watching Husky's ladder anxiety series is a good one. he's always been platinum level player and just got masters for the first time from just knowing the game well.

minigun is another good one, but they will be old casts, I think he's playing again. or was that someone else i cant think of.

I like the ROOT guys: Team Root | Professional Gaming - YouTube Puck is pretty good.

I dont know many Protoss casters, I dont bother watching toss stuff. Build a pylon, build 4 gates, win.

I think he sent me a PM with his battle.net account info and I got lazy and forgot to add him to my friends list. I may work on that next time I get on.

STARBOW!

It brings Brood War back.

My younger brother (decemberscalm) has played a major part in the development of this mod since its inception. I'll be on SC2 more now. Been playing League of Legends lately, which I'd say requires less multitasking. Here's a Kotaku article about Starbow:

StarCraft II Mod Brings Back The Best Units And Mechanics Of Brood War

You can add clan icons in sc2 now.

[TRUBO] members now have this:

I never played BW so I'm not good at STARBOW. I'm barely good at HOTS. I did switch to toss and now I win like 80% of my games without trying or knowing any build orders or what im doing with only 40-50APM. I had 120-130 with zerg.
