transmission/rear-end set-ups
I know both the 1.8L tranny/rear end and the RX-7 rear end/tranny somewhat bolt in... but which parts out of which cars and what year fit where? what all will i need to get from each?
I want to do an rx-7 tranny/rear -end if possible but it'll probably be the most difficult to do...what all will i need out of the rx to make it easiest?
EDIT: this will be going in a 1990 1.6L

mark williams will make custom ring and pinions at a fair price. I may have one drawn up for my car soon. You can run a clutch type aftermarket diff and ring/pinion for a decent price, and not have to worry about fab.

It's the '86-'91, non-turbo RX-7 diffs. that you want. Most likely the '86-'89 S4 diffs., as those are the ones with clutch-type diffs. The '93-'95 RX-7s (FD) used 8" rears that will take mucho fabrication to make work, just like the 8" from the '86-'91 Turbo II.
You should really search on this, as I know I've answered this exact question a number of times.

Ok ive been looking at some of the salvage yard sites for an RX7 diff assembly and have a few further questions. Does it matter if the axle is locking or non-locking, if the car is automatic or manual, or if the car is convertible or coupe? I ask because this is how the sites I am looking at are sorting their parts.
Also are there any models that had an open differential?
Oh yeah, also, i found two listed under "nonturbo, m/t, coupe" fpr $165 + $75 for shipping, im looking for a little lower, whatcha think?

yeah, you can pull out the torsen and sell it on EBAY and walk away with money in your pocket after the RX7 swap.
I'll do a write-up when I perform my RX7 LSD swap so you guys can get a better idea of exactly what to do.
akaryrye, PM R-1 on rx7club.com, he should have one. It will measure 7" diameter on the ring-gear, 6" without the gear attached.

I'm Brian...he's "Brain." Although I couldn't begin to tell you how many people have misspelled my name as "Brain" over the years...never figured out why. I mean, it's one thing when it's Valentine's Day in 2nd grade and a fellow 7-year-old gives you a card that says, "Would you be my valentine, Brain." Not sure why it still happens.
