Default some input please

Hi Im am new to boosting the miata and I dont have mine boosted yet. I was actually wondering your guys opinion on something. I have a 1993 miata and really want to make just a tad bit faster. I was really interested in the turbo scene for awhile and was actually thinking of buying a BEGI or greddy kit just for 5-6 psi to start with, or if a used kit was on the market at the time I was thinking about getting that as well. But recently talking with local people ad shops a local shop that is pretty reputable says the are doing custom supercharger installs for the miata. They have been doing it before and they install and tune it themselves on multiple miatas that go autoxing as well. Iy was a supercharger off of a JDM soarer I believer the codename sc14. They said will start it 5 psi and then can go safely and be a daily driver up to 9 psi which i believe would be about 170hp? The supercharger plus install plus tuning would total $1000 which is hella cheap in my book as opposed to me buying a new kit which would be about 1800 plus shipoing and either i can install or have it professionally installed and tuned which would amount over 2000 easily. Now I know this is the turbo miata forums but really which in your guys mind do you think is better and why? Thank you

It seems a bit too cheap to me. If you dont want that much more power then it seems like a good idea to me but I would ask for contact with some of the miatas which this has been installed in just to make sure its reputable. Maybe even take a ride to see if you like it.

Any Supercharged Miata at 5psi will pull like a v8. I say go for it.

I am going to take that as a complement

But it sounded pretty good even with the JRSC on it.

Back to the original questions:

I am unfamiliar with the kit you are referencing, Do you have any more specifics on it?

A lot of the decision is personal, whether you choose a turbo or choose properly and get a supercharger Your intended use for the car and ultimate power goals can also help us guide your decisions.
If you can get to 170hp for $1k you are doing well.

OK thanks for all the input. The supercharger is called an sc14 supecharger cant really find specifics on it as it is kind of old. If you google plenty of matches come up but not really anything good or in detail about the supercharger itself. I think it was a stock s/c on the 1-1gze, which is a jdm soarer ( supra or lexus idk? ) It is supposed to be the bid brother of the sc12 which is stock on the first gen mr2's. But in no way would I be able to get 170hp for 1k haha it would only be running at 5 psi for 1 k and no intercooler. To get it up to 9 psi I would have to add intercooler and some kind of piggyback and a smaller pulley am I right? Now would I be right to say that if they can custom install this s/c which in no way was originally meant for the miata wouldn't they be able to do it with different superchargers as well, because I have seen some older used ones that I might like better? Thanks for the input.

You have so many options.
Building the n/a motor, turbo, supercharger, engine swap, it's all about what YOU look for in a car (Driveability, racing, ect)
