Default bad trans or bad clutch

i finnaly got my car fixed up and running.. ended up being my timing was set to about -10degrees.

anyway. im running about 6 psi right now and probably making 150whp.. i rode in skidudes car just a couple days ago and it pulls harder but not a whole lot more and he has 200whp.. now i have no idea if i have a stock clutch in or aftermarket.
when i got my car i knew the turbo set-up looked half-assed so i assumed he skimped on certain things. well he didnt skimp out on plugs having bkre7s already in there right after i bought a set

now after we fixed the timing i went for a quick drive and my 3rd gear was slipping. now i took it for a spin today and 3rd gear has a grinding kinda noise and slipping as well.. it only happens in 3rd gear and 1st and 2nd will pull to redline without a problem. 4th and 5th are fine too

could it be just the clutch or do you think i have a bad trans as well?

Reading your description, I'm gonna say it's your shift key causing most of the problem.

Dude it sounds like the only possible thing it could be is the trans. I've had my clucth slip in two different situations, one being as the clutch is engaging like being dropped into first while holding high revs, and second being full throttle in like fourth gear at about 5000 rpms whn pk tq hit with the shitty ebay stage 2 clucth. i can't imagine any reason the clutch would be slippin in only 3rd, and it sure wouldnt sound like grinding.

shop around for a new trans, you should be able to find one for 100-150 pretty easily.

Slipping = RPMs rising quickly and the car not accelerating quickly.
Broken trans = grinding noise is teh badz.

i took the car out tonight to put some gas in it and found out the noise i was hearing ended up being my downpipe vibrating off the firewall shelf(stupid bolts wont stay on). i have 3rd gear again untill 4k then it slips and grabs by 5k everything else is fine so my problem is still only in 3rd gear

Start saving for an FM1 now and in a while when your clutch goes for good or when you turn up boost you will be ready.

Transmission gears don't just start "slipping" at certain RPMs. The teeth are engaged with each other 100% of the time, unless some of the teeth are torn off of a gear or gears and in that case it would be noticeable at all RPMs. I suspect the clutch. I don't understand why it won't do that in 4th or 5th though. Have you tried testing it in other gears on steep hills?
