Newb, yet not a newb...
Well, I’ve been on here long enough…. I figured maybe I should actually get a miata??
Searched craigslist for a couple weeks… last Thursday I wound up finding a black-on-black 1999 about an hour away, that had been “imported” from the magical rust-free land of FL last summer. Drove down to see it Friday after work… and drove it home! 136k miles… runs great, I drove it about 200 miles this weekend. Bonus points... even though it doesn't have leather... according to this it should have a torsen!
In the past year it’s gotten:
-New Kyb shocks
-New brakes
-Plugs/wires
-Battery (actually installed Friday morning lol)
I gave it a more thorough inspection over the weekend and the only problems I’ve found so far are:
-Cheesy aftermarket oil pressure gauge needs to be removed, will probably try connecting the sender to the stock gauge. Luckily the gauge is half assedly attached to the A pillar, no big holes anywhere.
-Cheesy mirrored window tint has to go.
-Konig wheels have to go, to be replaced by stock 01-03 16” 5 spokes off of my escort.
-The usual slow-seeping oil leaks that every BP gets… to be addressed eventually.
-Accessory belts are making some noise, both have some cracking so I’ll replace them this week and make sure the tension is correct.
-Trunk/cabin reeks like gas after parking it with the top up overnight. Did some searching and fiddled with the fill/vent lines yesterday… it was MUCH less stinky this morning. Airing the trunk out again all day today, hopefully I have solved that problem.
-A/c blows warm... yay future weight reduction!
-Cruise control does not work, need to troubleshoot.
-Clunks occasionally when coming to a full stop, from what i read so far I am going to need to check/replace the brake clips/hardware.
Paid $3500 cash… how’d I do? I’ll post some pictures later. There were some really nice ones on the ad, but the seller took it down immediately…
