ouch....didn't even think about that

I would hope they'd let you guys keep racing, I just can't imagine a Miata with a victory under it's hat being popular.

Considering your chances of crushing the field again are slim as you outlined, I really hope ya'll don't get the curse and you guys get to go out and have fun again.

Enough of this jibber-jabber, let's get back to beans.

I drove anchor leg on this race, and when I was driving, the oil pressure gauge was going nutty. Kept dropping to, or close to zero powering out of corners. Thing is, it seemed to be more throttle-related than purly corner related, and it woudl consistently drop to 0 for a second heading up the big, steep hill this most spectactular of tracks had.

JayKav says he saw something somewhere about these 1.6 oil pressure senders picking up knock and making the gauge flicker. Can anybody point me to a thread explaining this phenomenon? I sure hope that's what was going on (I thought I heard a little knock on the hill, but there was also a lot of gravel, so it could have been that. I had a helmet on...)

Here's a post on another forum:

"The Miata oil sender is not mechanical resistance like the Z sender. It works off of piezio electric elements. They respond to being "bent" by pressure by putting out a change in voltage."

"I believe I heard that it is basically a carbon element pressure transducer, which is in effect a microphone. Ping makes sound, microphone picks it up, guage jumps. Pretty cool knock sensor."

Congrats on the win!

Here is the link to the Good Morning America:

ABC News

Whats the suspension set up on that car? I ran our Lemons car (sr71 Miata) in the Lemons South race with stock suspension and was dragin the door around most of the coarse. The judges were eyeing our suspension really hard and it was stock! What did you get away with? We will be out again next year with the Miata and need some good ideas. I still have not torn down the car to send pics to Jay to get out car value but I did email him and he wanted description of all problems and pictures.

PM me if you want.

We did have a great time at the race and will be back again for the Lemons party!

Our suspension is cut stock springs with double-stacked stock lower spring perches (to space the car's ride height back up), a stock front sway bar relocated to the rear and an RX7 front bar in front. That's it.

Oh, we did kludge up some ugly endlinks to make the bars "fit". They are truly horrific but the car handles ok and most importantly it was all cheap cheap cheap and obviously homespun. The BS judges recognize and appreciate that.

I would never try to show up to LeMons with coilovers even if they were 100% free. The judges would crucify you with penalty laps.

We won't even show up with Bilsteins. We've actually turned down a few sets of free, stock Bilsteins just because they're yellow.

Basic math is your friend when it comes to both of our tricks (cutting springs and modifying sway bars).

Here's the math: Sport Compact Car: Technobabble: November 2000

This is how we raised our car back up after cutting springs: Name: P1020649.jpg

This is how we made our stock rear sway bar stiffer:

And this is how we made an RX-7 front sway bar fit a Miata:

Plus, our roof is made of aluminum and yours is made of plywood. Which do you think makes more body roll?

Jay gave me a personal pass on the Konis on my car but I don't know if he expects I'm using $43.25 shipped eBay coilovers from an Eclipse to raise my springrates.
