Sorry, guys, I'm running out the door and don't have time to search. I need to get back to someone that bought my 99 motor. He wants an exhuast cam. Can 94-97 exhaust cams go in 99's? I didn't think so due to the solid lifters, but wanted to check with those the know for sure.
If they can't, anyone have a 99-00 exhaust cam they want to sell?

Earlier cams had a more agressive ramp up designed to work specifically with hydraulic lifters, which will cause serious damage when run on solid lifters.
If you want to run an earlier cam you have to retrofit the hydraulic lifters onto the head.
Why would you blatantly state something as fact when you obviously dont have any idea what youre talking about?

Edit: I called Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, and they confirmed that any miata cam can use a solid lifter. Do not take FM's advice too seriously when dealing with cams and valvetrain. That is not their forte.

I will tell you why, I put shim under solids and a stock 95 cam, and never had a problem. Your statement is horseshit. Mazdaspeed Motorsports advised me that it was ok.

Woh woh woh slow down there hoss. You are not making any sense. The small amount of valve lash that is required to use a shim will not cause it to fling out. The skinniest shim is bigger than the valve lash, so it is impossible. Also a solid lifter is a solid lifter, it does not matter if the shim is on the bottom or top. Call Mazdaspeed and find out for yourself.
And by the way, can we end this silly feud. It is not really worth it. I will edit out thein the last post if it will make you feel better.

That is a lot of lift. Is the 264/250 advertised duration or duration at .050"? High lift cams tend to create high reving motors, and the problem with shim over lifters, is that they are very heavy compared to the shim under lifters. That is what the shim under is for, to lighten the load on the valve springs, and it makes a little bit more power.
Who ever had it must have cleared the lifter galleys, because that much lift will not work on a stock 96 head without modification. I think you can run it on a 99 head, but you will have to check clearances.
