Paypal dispute with "MiataMX5"
#21
when i looked on the website it said that the shipping insurance would only cover damaged item within Canada but if it got lost in the mail in would be covered in the USA. it also said you have to start the claim i even sent you the link to that. also about the serial link connector yes i have tried a total of 2 different devices. I tried a serial to usb on my laptop and a serial cable on my desktop so i doubt both are messed up they were both bought at radio shack new and if you are wondering I changed the com port from 1 to 3 on the usb. also look at the different claims on paypal the "not as described" is if you get a item that is "broken". Think about it if someone says it works great then you get it and its doesn't work then its not as it was described and broken now isn't it? I tried to crank it without changing the maps because it want load anything with any of my computers through the serial link. You told me it had the base 1.6 turbo map therefore it should crank i have a 1.6 turbo with 430cc injectors

Sounds like a man who doesn't know his way around a Link ordered one and is having buyer's remorse now that he realizes he doesn't know how to get a Link going. If you're in over your head, man the **** up and say so.
As long as I'm chastising you, MiataMX5, can you type in English? Your posts are very difficult to read.

I had a link. I liked it, but getting it to communicate with dataloglab can be trying. Set the serial com port to com1.
Not all USB to serial adapters work. If using one, you need to set the usb serial adapter to com1
connect the link to serial cable and attach to computer.
In datalog lab I believe you select new "zone settings". A dos window will appear, now, turn on the ignition and it should start pulling the settings from the LINK.
You also need to go in the dataloglab options menu and tell it where to save the files.

This seems to be an ongoing issue with buyers recently, and I've had quite a few issues.
The classifieds section is "buyer beware", as in:
1. Buyer responsibility to do research.
2. Buyer responsibility to ask for more pics/info BEFORE the deal occurs if they are specifically worried about condition.
3. Buyer responsibility to determine if condition matches price beforehand, instead of later complaining and asking for a refund.
When I first started buying here this was the way it worked, and if what was in the box didn't match what I expected I KNEW it was my fault for not asking more questions or doing more research. Recently, every buyer I deal with has expected storefront type service in the way of invoices, tracking numbers, condition and return policy, even when I'm selling items at nearly half their original cost.
These are person-to-person private transactions, and once you agree to pay, as long as the buyer sends what is advertised they have fulfilled their obligation.
Don't get me wrong, I go out of my way to make people happy, and often take extra pictures before shipping to make sure the buyer will be happy. I DO NOT however appreciate people turning my hobby into a nightmare because they have unrealistic expectations on cheap used parts.

It also did not work. I have read up on install and tune the also talked to some of the guys at flyin miata trying to get some help. Today I had it towed to a shop that tunes these computers I will let yall know if they can do anything with it or not . They said they want be able to touch it till after lunch.

I am not unhappy with the way it looks ITS BROKE how can you tell that from a pic? I can't even tell by looking at it with the box open. If someone tells you one thing then ships it to you and it's different I don't believe thats my fault. The only thing I mad about the way it looked was the serial link which wasn't a serial link it's some home made thing that dont have a covering around the motherboard or anything so I have to be very careful with where I put it so I dont short it out. That is a little misleading if you ask me. But I could still deal with that if it worked and I could get my car running.

I've reluctantly contacted Canada Post and they would like information on if the box was damaged (again, I used a heavy duty box, so I doubt it was).

Nothing wrong with a LINK, especially for someone who lacks technical skills. It's Miata specific and has a very well documented manual - free, not too mention tons of documented user experience on various forums. It's not optimum, but it's viable. I think this a case of unrealistic expectations when it comes to installing and applying engine management.

I feel you, similar deal had a while back with a transmission in another thread and almost got banned as the guy was the buddy buddy of the forum, in my case I did have to send the money back after goin through all the trouble of packaging, cleaning up etc, thankfully I had NOT sent it out yet.
The guy paid me and 3 hours later opened a dispute stating as not delivered, totally messed up, but thats one strike out of many good transactions.

You never sent me any pics of the unit but whatever. I just talked with the place I took it to tune the car. The Link ECU works fine they do have the car running now after changing the chip date is was 18-Feb-2005 and now it's 18-jul-2003. The serial link is broke thats why I cannot connect to the ecu with my computer. So I am sorry about saying the ecu was broke but one of the parts was messed up causing it not to work for me. If you were in my position you would have probably thought the same thing and been pretty pissed off. I have to get back and forth to work and this is my dd so I am having to borrow my moms car. The ECU works fine I guess the serial link thing just got broke in the mail
