I feel the "turboing your dd while in college" arguement. I just did it. I'm graduating in May and then I'll be saving for an NB (which I will turbo when I get it) so I figured it would be good to practice on this old NA with a lot of miles. I live really close to school though so I don't drive it a lot during the week, I just bike to class.

I had a turbo vw in college, which was also hit a total of 9 times when parked, just in college. I also had $14k in CC debt when I got out. Now I have miatas and just student loan debt, but I was smart enough to pay cash for everything this time. Hopefully it pays off.

I don't know how the hell you afford this **** in college.

My parents spoil me by paying tuition, rent, and food so all I have to spend my money on is beer and turbo. And gas. I don't know how people afford it if they have to pay for their own college. I'm spoiled rotten, but I know it and I don't take it for granted. I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.

Damn. All of my student loans are in my name and all my parents pay for is my cell phone...:P

For which I am very grateful.

Damn son. I owe about $4k on my CC, all of my car stuff I paid for cash though, the other stuff was from a computer I built for school, random other ****, summer tuition, etc.

I worked two jobs for the past 6 months while going to school through the summer, I just quit one so I can get work done and graduate on time. I only work a few days a week, but I average out about $15/hr after taxes...so I'm not complaining.

Once I walk I'm buying a nice comfortable DD that will prolly be driven less than the miata, but provide a backup car. Teachers aren't supposed to have loud, fast cars.

Heh, one of the EVOs in the last USCC is owned by an assistant principal.

lol.

Win.

A quick shot from today. Got the FMIC after waiting on more piping, still having an issue with a short in the MS harness not letting the car start.

sounds nice. I didn't have much debt until grad school... I'll probably have to sell my car within the next year to start paying some bills.

idk, we'll see how the motor/myself handles wastegate tune...then try for 12-13 or so.

Whatever can yield me about 220rwhp.

I gotta figure out why I wont cold start, or why MT wont read the AEM first...once that is done, out of the garage she goes.

God dude, is that all the light you have? How the hell do you work like that? Save up your pennies and buy some overhead lighting or a few droplights.

Kudos on an excellent budget build considering your financial woes and educational priorities.

That is at my buddies place. Its normally not that dark.

The two big droplights were taken off the extension cords for a box fan before/after the car to help suck the exhaust gas out of the garage.

Thanks man, I've been working on this for a while, only thing I am really not happy with is the manifold, I hate the factory manifolds but it was cheap and I am planning on swapping my 1.8 in sometime soon so ETD then, or a new kit.

Update:

Got the TD04 back with the 19T upgrade and the 550cc in. I got cold start figured out to about 35 degrees...after that, its hopeless.

Wastegate happily holds 7-8, but will constantly creep to 10 if I'm on the throttle in second.

And, since I got a digital camera for Christmas...Pictures!

I have no before logs. But I will post before/after EBC stuff if I can figure it out.

I'm still a complete MS noob. I got cold start to about 35, but anything lower than that I can't get her to start :(

I love how the car makes a lot more power off boost. And how noticable the power is when the boost is building. Unfortunately with the cold weather we've been having I haven't been able to get it cranked up to tune with it in the past week or so.

Can you not clock that compressor housing? That 90* bend in the intercooler pipe doesnt look good, but on a budget, I guess its fine. Did you use ebay piping "kits". How many did it take, or did you buy individual pieces? I might do my own ebay ic vs buying begi's for insane money, but I can see it turning into a pain in the *** trying to find the right bends. Are the inlet and outlet on the end tanks at the bottom? Hard to tell exactly how its routed by those pictures.

What is the TD04-15 capable of? 225-250whp?

it ain't hurting nothing...think about the flow through the IC itself...

Yeah, its a CXracing IC, so I don't know how decent it is. once I figure my other problems out, I'll prolly clock the compressor housing straight down.

I might have 200 bucks in the FMIC setup including the RFL bov. I bought a used kit from a guy on here that included the IC and a few bends, the bov, some t-bolts and silicone. I then had to buy a bunch of random bends/straights that came with t-bolts and 4 ply silicone for another 80 off of E-bay. I think it came from CXRacing as well.

Its not the most efficient setup, but for what I have in it, especially with the turbo upgrade, I'm happy. 2.5" TBE, 19T, 550cc, Megasquirt, etc etc, I don't really have that much in it. The Intercooler is the most ghetto part of the build, but I just wanted it running so I could figure out some other problems then work on fixing it.
