a few people were asking me about what group buy we can do next. anyone have ideas. a first i was thinking koyo radiators, but i already saw another group buy for mashimoto radiators.

i can get anything from the major companies, blitz, greddy, apexi, tomei, toda, volk, 5 zigen, pretty much any company that has a US based market, even down to oakley driving shoes and gloves. LOL

just throw ideas, if i find people interested i wouldn't mind passing it thru to my friend.

Why am I the only one getting the HDSS? Does it suck that badly? I wonder why so many are getting the xtss since most of us will likely be ~ or less than 200 ftlbs. Headroom?

Ok I need help here, I have a 1.6 and don't have the cash for a flywheel. I'm lookin to have 200-220rwhp. My commute is 45min of 7 to 8 tenths mtn driving followed by 60 min of Los Angeles stop and go traffic. Will the ZM1-HDSS work for me? The numbers seem to show it would be ok. I'd prefer an XTSS but no go with a 1.6 flywheel. My next option seems a bit extreme. Any suggestions?
I work near City of Industry so I can pick up. I Pm'd you Simon.

hey Dan, does the 1.8 you have, have a fly wheel?

if that is the case, when you are installing a new clutch you need to have the fly wheel resurfaced, just resurface your old 1.8 fly wheel and use it with a zm2 clutch...

the nice thing about the miata engines, is that the clutch and fly wheel are interchangeable... i.e. you can use a 1.8 clutch and flywheel on a 1.6...

and you can use a 1.6 clutch and flywheel on a 1.8...

but since you are gonna go for boost if you got the spare fly wheel off the 1.8... just resurface that, that way you will have a bigger clutch and fly wheel... a little added protection...

so i'm taking it that you are gonna stick with 1.6 and boost that??

edit: if you wanna go for the 1.8, there is a junkard in irwindale, thatwill let you have the flywheel for about 50....

yeah james' reply is correct.

but if you dont want to switch flywheels. an ACT ZM1-HDSS will hold at those power ranges, but you will be at border line. I use to run ZM1-HDSS /w Fidanza flywheel at 225 whp. As far as daily driving, its fine. It is not that stiff. Actually from HD to XT it is quite a bit stiffer IMO.

And yeah you can pick up.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 1.6 w/ a 1.8 FW, so likely I'll go w/ the zm2-hdss or the zm2-xtss. The zm1-xtmm clamp load is 100% increase, so I'll probably skip that one since it'll be too hard on the legs.

I'm pretty sure these #'s ACT give out are rated at the FW. So if you are 200hp at the wheels, then you're probably ~250hp at the FW. From what I hear, they are also underrated.

With everyone going for lightweight FW's, wouldn't putting a 1.8FW on a 1.6 be heading in the opposite direction?

the light weight fw, just makes your engine rev easier, thats about it... as for going with a 1.8 fw, since you will be adding boost, it won't really matter... (then again, i don't have a 1.6 boosted car with a1.8 flywheel...) but thats is just from what i've read.... and i read A LOT about clutches... lol...

but the 1.8 is a bigger clutch, so it will be able to handle more power, and grab better... so even if you start of with a stock 1.8 flywheel now, getting the bigger clutch will help, also, you can always upgrade to light flywheel when you have the cash,

if you put it into 1.6 parts, you will have to stick with the 1.6 clutch...

just my two cents, if you are gonna replace parts, just get the parts you want, it always costs more if you have to buy it twice...

p.s. i'm looking for a protege cover for my 1.8 now, just so i can have the cool exposed gears... god i'm a tool....

-james

edit: some of the spec guys run an upgraded 1.6 clutch and fw to save weight... basically the way it breaks down, it the 1.6 is 1 step less... i.e. a stage three 1.6 clutch is comprable to a stage 2 1.8 clutch...

hope that helsp.

Default Message From Seller

Hi everyone, Simon has given me his account info so I could post a 1 time message. I will not keep logging into Simon's account to check for pm or anything else so I apologize if anyone is going to send a message thinking its me and not Simon. I do appreciate Simon answering as many questions as possible and taking his time to help set this up.

So the reason why I felt I had to log in myself to post a message is.... I asked Simon to post up that starting today, Saturday, 1-3-09 from 12-4pm PST, I would start to take everyones info so first thing Monday I can gather up everything I can and order whatever ACT I don't have instock so I can send out right away. BTW, ACT is not driving local to us but less than 100 miles from our location so when they UPS our orders to us, it gets to us in 1-2 days. UNFORTUNATELY, my wife reminded me that we have this big family event and I would not be able to open the store today. I'm so sorry, I totally forgot about this.

SO... I have already received a couple of emails from you guys which is great. IF EVERYONE WHO HASN'T EMAILED ME, PLEASE PM SIMON FOR MY EMAIL ADDRESS AND SEND ME A EMAIL. If everyone would send me a email with the following information:

miataturbo.net user name:
full name:
full address:
- must be billing address is using credit card, we only ship to billing address to protect ourselves and the credit card holder
- must be verified shipping address on paypal account if using paypal to protect ourselves and the paypal account holder
contact #(s):
- list 1 to however many phone numbers you want me to know so i can contact you to take your order
year, make, model of car + 1.6L or 1.8L motor:
ACT part#s requested for purchase:

Even for those who have already emailed me, I don't have al the info above so please send me another email with the information requested above, thanks.

Hopefully if all 13 or 14 people who are interested on the GB are able to contact me ASAP, I can build a list and call each person or email one by one to take credit card #'s, finalize contact info, answer any questions, and so on. Maybe i can sneak away today and head to the office or latest I will contact everyone Monday morning 1 by one.

Notes on the way we do things. Since there were 2 prices listed, 1 for under 10 people and 1 for over 10. We have been waiting to take orders once we had over 10 people plus XMAS. We don't charge customers credit cards until the day we are ready to ship. Paypal we cannot help to take the money that is transfered to us. We do offer local will call in our store location but we have to confirm first if the order is ready for pickup. We are open M-F 10:30am-7:00pm PST and Sat. 12:00-4:00pm PST. Just going through the list on what people want, we don't have everything instock since there are a variety of ACT part#'s between 1.6 and 1.8 and also different models desired. But as mentioned above, ACT should have instock and we get shipments from ACT constantly and we are close enough where it only takes 1 day shipping. Sometimes 2 days because ACT needs 1 day to process orders. Sorry but local and CA shipped customers we have to charge 8.25% CA tax.

Hope I didn't forget anything, trying to type as much info as I can think about right now before i get ready for the family event I have all day today. Hope to talk to all of you very soon, thanks.

ALSO.. For those who didn't hear about it or don't know. ACT as on 12-16-08 raised prices due to increase material cost. I as the seller didn't mention or ask Simon to mention it because I was busy with XMAS and other stuff during December. I have received the latest updated prices and even with the slight price increase, I am still able to honor the same prices. I'll take the slight loss in profit to honor the prices I told Simon to post a few weeks ago. I truly feel you guys are getting a really great prices on ACT products and I want to take care of you guys.

Post #1 has my part number listed wrong, it should be ZM2-HDSS. Post #64 is right. Just wanted to make sure there is no confusion.

Oh what the hell, I'm in for ZM2-XTSS and prolite flywheel. I guess most people would wait until after they're boosted to deal with the clutch, but there's no harm in stockpiling parts ahead of time, eh?
