27 miatas in GT5

Ok...let me first say that I actually bought a PS3 specifically to play this game. We did also need a blu-ray player, internet dongle for netflix, media center for daughter's movies so she doesn't scratch DVDs and all...but my wife isn't stupid...she knows why I talked her into this being our Christmas present.
Also, the last GT I played was the original, on PS1.1. I was on the wait list at GameStop with a $5 deposit for the last one...but the ******* never gave me a call when it came in, and I didn't have a PS2 and didn't care enough to chase down both anymore.
This game is pretty....but I'm seriously underwhelmed. While I'm not using a wheel, we do have a 50" 1080p Samsung, and full JBL audio. The HD is nice, but the car sounds BLOW. I mean really....what the ****? I might as well be at the arcade...15yrs ago.
Driving almost isn't fun. I know there's a learning curve, but I was a MASTER at GT1, and felt that it had a pretty good physics engine. I back up NA6C on the non-linear steering....it's really weird...like **** this I'm gonna go do some homework weird. When you can manage to get the inputs you are actually trying to achieve the car doesn't behave like you'd expect. Incredibly touchy, while letting you get away with things that would be stupid on the road. It's dumb. How can you let me chop throttle mid-turn and still stick, but spin me out if the analog stick goes toward apex at entry just a little too quick? Anyhow, I may get used to it, but I already know I don't LIKE it.
Want a shining example of how dumb the physics engine can be, drive the F40. I understand it's a race car with a turbocharged motor peakier than Mt. Everest...but still...it's absolutely undriveable regardless of how careful you are.
AI...nuff said. It's definite artifical...definitely not intelligent.
But damn is the game pretty. Just wish I enjoyed playing it.

The sound is a joke like you said. Even with a good sound system like I have, it's just laughable. Why does my big V8 sound like a leaf blower or electric drill? The environment noises are pretty good though. I think tire sounds have finally been upgraded after the same ones from GT-GT4, though I may be mistaken, it's been a while since GT4. When I get off the edge of the track, the bass really shakes the room nicely, almost too much bass though. The rest of the volume is low or moderate, but when suddenly it sounds/feels like my house is being shelled by North Korea, and no my sub isn't set too high.
Another small complaint I forgot to bring up, what is up with the ugly *** exhaust systems? Anything more than stock gives you a weird looking tiny canister near the tips. It looks horribly ugly, to the point that I leave stock exhausts on if I can.

I haven't played GT5 in 2 days. It should be so much better than it is. 5 years is like 10% of my life expectancy, the game should be at least 2 or 3x as good as GT4 but it's more like 1.5x better. Pisses me off. Granted, I won't be playing any other racing game until GT6, hopefully that won't be shitty. I'm just about done with videogames altogether anyway.

I got a PS3 last year for GT5, but also because it was a Blu-Ray player, a media center, and it has interwebz. I can conceivably play games, listen to music, watch movies, organize ****, and order a ******* pizza without ever leaving the sofa. It's a neat device.
As for GT5... I'm having fun with it. My last big bunch of seat time was with GT3, and I've never played Forza. The game is ******* gorgeous. For the first time in my GT playing history, I don't have to watch the replays to see pretty pictures. I went all in and got the wheel, so it drives great as far as I'm concerned. It drives one hell of a lot better than GT4, from what I remember. Again, I've never played Forza, and I'm not going to get an x-Box, so it's a moot point.
The AI? Jesus... don't get me started. I almost lost my **** last night when one of 'em ran me off the road in the same ******* spot for the Nth time. The dog skulked out of the room, thinking she might have secretly crapped on the floor or something. I also have to question why an ancient 280ZX is quicker off the line than my turbo Miata, hangs with me to the first turn, then disappears for the rest of the race.
The menus aren't quite as clear as GT3, but they haven't completely lost me. The loungey 70s **** lite-jazz is somehow relaxing to me. And the goofy Top Gear VW Bus challenge was ridiculous in a good way. I'm not sure we needed to wait 5 years for this, but whatever - I'm having fun with it.

Jesus ****, all you people that keep bitching about the game just go make your own thread to do so. WE GET IT, YOU ARE DISSAPOINTED IN THE GAME, IT SUCKS, ETC ETC ETC
Can we just talk about the game...
In other news, I got a wheel last night. Man this will take practice. But I was able to Gold all the Nascar races within minutes.

So how does the online play work? I'm pretty sure my Atari 2600 didn't have this feature, so I've never used it before. I've "friended" a couple of friends on my PS3 but I can't figure out how to set up a head-to-head race with them - without AR (Artificial Retardation).
I'm old and stupid.

QFT. I will probably be doing this as well. My primary desire is for realistic physics and tracks in order somewhat keep my track skillz sharpened. A friend of mine in SA, a NASA racer, is doing the same thing for the same reason.
I wonder if iRacing would ever add the TWS 2.9 mi if enough of us asked for it? That would be fantastic. Seems like they would be motivated to at least scan in the oval for the NASCAR crowd since it is a practice/tuning track, so while they are there... Anyway thread jack over.
The non-linear steering, impossible to drive cars, and bad AI are all big turnoffs for me. I believe I called it correctly earlier. They took soooo long to release GT5, used hype about its vast improvements to explain the delay, and then released something that does not meet the inflated expectations.
