Just came home from successful knee surgery
Wazzzzzzupp, motherfudckin ash-holles?
I"m high on my pain meds so I can post whatever the **** I want.
.
.
.
Just kidding. I came out of general anesthesia few hours ago and I'm surprisingly lucid and pain free. My analytical brain is working, a bit sleepy, but my fingers feel 2 inches thick and I move like a drunk person.
I had ACL reconstruction, and the doc sewed up my meniscus. Sewing is good because it'll heal 100% but crutches and no clutching for 3 weeks.
I got there at 7:30, scheduled for 9:00 but didn't start til 9:45 due to a delay with the earlier patient. It was a small surgery center, which ROCKS copmared to a hospital because the staff seem like they know and like each other and like their jobs! I woke up around 11:45 hungry. (No nausea!) I chided them for not putting an In N Out burger in my IV.
The valium before the surgery really got rid of my anxiety and I started cracking jokes. Then the last thing I remember was this conversation:
Anesthesiologist about to put something in my IV:
"This is the good stuff"
"What is it?"
"Fentanyl"
And then the next thing I remember is "Congratulations, your surgery went well and we didn't remove any of the meniscus".
LOL. This is feeling like a vacation!

Post surgery is always awesome. I came out of my last kidney stone surgery feeling like a million bucks, thanks to the drugs. They gave me something that made me feel REALLY funky, far more drunk feeling than I have ever been, mixed with extreme exhaustion. Then they gave me gas for the final KO, unless they snuck something else in my IV that I didn't see. Woke up in post op feeling pretty good. Came out of my daze within 5 minutes, and had hot, young nurses bringing me ice chips and crackers. Sweet!
Congrats on the results of the surgery. Enjoy the drugs and time off for me!

It's weird but it's an hour after 10 mg slow-release Oxy, and I just feel a bit sleepy. No buzz!
The Valium was much better!
It's a bit surreal, my knee is locked in a straight position with a brace, but I can put weight on it. I was warned not to bend it with a load on it though. I thought the aftermath of the surgery would be worse than the injury itself, but so far it's been a breeze.

I'm a Percocet kind of guy. But only the strongest 2 dosages do much for me. the last time I got them for something, I only got some weak *** dosage, and they were no fun at all. My surgery however I got the big boys. I felt fine...

Good luck with the healing process. I've got hernia surgery next Monday. When they drilled out my ankle I couldn't shower with the cast. Little razor shave above the cast, a trash bag, and masking tape seals it off for showers. I get a little wonky on my daily pain med so looking forward to coming to after this one. My tonselectomy went bad and almost bled to death. Came to on the anesthesia, morphine, and about 3 other pain killers at once. That was a fun afternoon.

The best part about 3 weeks on crutches, is the 4 month cripple parking pass!
Ya I'm wondering how I'm even gonna get my underwear off! I think I'll keep it on for 3 days, and just use cologne, until the wife begins to complain bitterly!
We have a heat wave now, and before I left this morning I set the a/c permanently to "arctic"!

It's was this leg extended thingy that would go full straight, then back to whatever angle you had it set it to. It worked wonders for me. I increased bend angle by 5* every day and it helped tremendously. I also had the ice water pump thingy. I'd say week 2 was the most painful.
Don't forget to rehab if you plan on ever doing anything physical with your life. My knee is still numb in the front, it hurts to take a knee on anything hard, and smashing doggie style isn't as good as it used to be. Got to get creative.

Curly, did your surgeon recommend it and did insurance pay for it?
EDIT: Hmm, it speeds up the return of range of motion in the first week or 2 but makes no difference at the 6 week mark:

Bond, did you have ACL reconstruction?
Was the week 2 pain, from the physical therapy and general moving around?

Haven't had it done yet, I just assume I need it. I've had terrible knees since 5th grade, very sore after only an hour or so of strenuous activity. Pain in 5th grade was the result of dead cartilage between the femur and tibula.
It was more of a joke, bad knees or not, you never want to have surgery until you NEED it. Mine would be more of a replacement, not a repair.

curly,
Read these:

I considered doing it for my other knee (meniscus tear), but plain prolotherapy cured it enough to not bother me in normal and sporting activities. I just can't bend it now > ~100*.

NA6C- I had to look up inguinal hernia just to remind me. I saw pics of that at my surgery clinic. Holy ^*%! Mine is an umbilical hernia. As in mine is poping out the belly button. Kinda like a 3rd boob. They can go in and make a scar or that + mesh. I'm asking for mesh. Basically they go in and shove all the crap back in and create a scar that "should" be stronger than before. Or they do that and put basically what looks like a fiber glass mesh in. It's bio fiber glass mesh with some fancy name.Probably no difference in method of surgery. I'll ask on monday when I go in.
Also do your rehab on your knee. My ankle was jacked when I messed it up in the military and they never let it heal right. Now 1/2 the time I'm rocking a cane at 30
FYI be notified I may make some weird *** posts for a few days due to more drugs than the usual amount.
