Default New (used) laptop for in car tuning. Trying to use a mouse?

For tuning with the wideband: Well it sucks logging a run (blind) then running into the house, downloading, viewing etc. so I'm about to buy a laptop so I can maximize my laziness.

The problem: The previous owner disabled the fingerpad (right term?) to use a mouse. Fine, but the laptop has no mouse now. My desktop PC has a mouse but it wont fit into the laptop. So, WTF? Is there a special mouse for laptops? I can't change the settings back to fingerpad w/ no mouse! Maybe take it somewhere to use their mouse? Sounds reasonable...

TOSHIBA 1905-S303

Also, any opinions on this thing are welcome since computers are really not my strong point.

EDIT: Holy ish, just googled it found:
http://www.axiontech.com/prdt.php?src=FG&item=15204

Guess I'll buy it anyways! ...........Good price...........

it has a keyboard doesn't it? just tab and alt-letter your way around to get the track pad re-enabled.

I just tried it on my laptop.

All I had to do was hit the little Windows flag key then use the arrows to get into control panel and change the mouse settings.

Is that option in the control panel? There is this "SystemDoctor" covering most of the screen, I can't close it to see what I'm selecting.

What button to "click the X" and close the program?

Thanks!

edit: OK, just saw your post when I posted. I'm in control panel, cant see what to select.

Well you can ctrl-alt-delete to close a program, just select it with the arrow keys then hit tab until end task or end process is selected, then hit enter.

That reminds me of an old Simpsons episode.

Just hit the Tab key to start a tab.

I stopped watching the simpsons a few years ago once i had seen all the episodes two or three times. I don't even watch the new ones for some reason though.

I watch family guy every chance I get, which isn't that often.

Oh well, I'll never forget Homer choosing the moo moo, or his fingers being too fat to dial the phone...

you should be able to turn on the touchpad. should be in the control panel somewhere. Could be under mouses or under the manufacturers name. Somwhere in there.

Otherwise, what type of mouse are you trying to plug in? a serial (round) or usb (flat)? and what type of plug does your cpu have? If you have a usb mouse and serial connector on the cpu, then you can get an adapter. either way a mouse is like $5 for a cheapo.

That meant I got it to work It was in the control panel. Actually, the only reason I wanted a mouse was to enable the pad, not to use the mouse all the time. It's gonna be in the car anyways.

Installed Logworks2 and configured the LMA channels. I'm all set. Going to test it today.

Thanks everyone for the computer help!

I can probably find it for cheaper than 29.99?? Guess I'll search compusa/bestbuy etc.

You might get suggestions on USB/serial adapters.. They're notoriously finicky.
