Deal? or no Deal...
So my friend from work has 2 cars that he wants to sell me. They are both 1996 BMW 740i's. The one is green and it's gorgeous except it has a blown engine. The other is white and it's hammered, but it runs like it's brand new. They are both the exact same car, V8 automatics. He says I can have both for like $1600 (that's right, One Thousand, six hundred dollars). He told me I could swap the motors, part the white one out or scrap it, and then I'd have 1 perfect one that I could sell or drive or whatever I wanted. I just got my tax return too, so what is it guys? Is this is smashing deal, or is it another headache that I don't need?

It sounds like a deal.
Having a spare chassis can save you money as well.
A friend at work did it with two Lincoln LSs he picked up cheap. The blown motor one had the black interior he wanted and was nice looking.
He still isn't done with the project though, and started last summer. He ended up rebuilding the motor anyhow, after he realized how much work it was to get it out.

just be warned that the late 80s and early 90s bimmers bigger than a 3 series can be SERIOUS money pits. expect you'll spend double what you bought them for to get one running reliably.
