Default So I matched into a residency program

So for the last year, I've been doing a fellowship in craniofacial genetics, with an emphasis in cleft lip and palate.

I applied for orthodontics 3 months ago and just got the good news today. I matched with my #1 program! I hope to do a cleft lip and palate emphasis during the residency.

Just wanted to share the news. MT orthodontic hook ups after the 27 month residency!

I'm in the hole over $470k, including dental school!

I'm assuming lenders know we can pay it back, so they don't have a problem lending. I don't have any co-signers.

Some programs get a stipend, usually hospital based ones. However, I ranked a private school #1, so I get to pay them!

470k?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wowwwwwwwwwwwww
Makes my school debt look silly lol.

You're going to make bank though, and as long as you enjoy what you do you're set.

I have a friend in the middle of his dental hygenist program, and I honestly can't deal with teeth. Wanted to become a dentist, but quickly changed majors after seeing some crazy ****.

Dude if you were to make people's teeth as white as your car, you would have bought 2 Ferraris by now.

470k isn't bad. My brother in law owes 750k, he's an oral surgeon.

They talk about a lack of students going into the medical field. I wonder why...

You also have to consider opportunity cost and compounding. Who wants to be broke as **** and not be able to begin investing until 30 to 35..

That's less than three years for a good oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

That still neglects the future value of total loan payments and investments. Not saying they don't earn a great living, but that overshadows the true cost involved.

Some people choose to drive Miatas. There are many people I work with that have Corvettes, Porches, Mercedes, BMWs, and theres even an NSX in the parking lot. I personally don't want a loan larger than the one I already have for my 2010 Mustang and I wouldn't want to waste cash with 0% financing.
