If I recall the story he was trying to turbo the car as cheap as possible... so he flipped the stock exhaust manifold over and welded a flange to it.

Wow I've never seen that. Great idea IMHO. Funny as hell, probably worked well.

I'm not sure why he didn't just run the downpipe out and over the fender.

And from the looks of it.....DS tire would get to threshold temp very quickly and become greasy too fast. But it is obvious it is not a road course car as you wouldn't be able to see the apexes in it.
