I just want them because I have them on my MTB and they rarely need adjustment, while any other bike I had previous with rim brakes the braking wasn't as strong and they needed to be adjusted all of the time.

Hussy, I knew it was a china frame. Im thinking about building one up, but not going stupid with high end parts with a build plan is pretty hard.... a lot like a moderate engine build LOL. I always say well ultegra is only $40 more than XX and then you end up with a few dozen parts that were only 40-60$ more to save a few pounds or something.

DO IT! I love day-glo bikes... that color reminds me of one of aaron ross' bikes:

that road frame with matching carbon aero rims would be sweet

I understand the $20 here, there, everywhere considering what I just went through on medical bills. However, considering the only 105 part left on my bicycle are the levers, I strongly urge you to get a 6700 or better Ultegra RD and crank. This is mainly because the bearings are better in the 6700 RD (among other things I'm told) and the elevators work wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better on the crank.

I have a 6600 Rd already. Should be ok. If not I will buy some new wheels with upgraded bearings.

I will know in a day or 2 of I will have a new frame to work off of. Found a nice one on ebay within a reasonable budget that needs a paint job... Which I'm equipped to do.

What do you mean by elevators in this context? I tried to google what elevators had to do with bike cranks and I got nothing.

My opinion on recent discussion items:

1) Aerowheels might be faster and look cooler, but light wheels are more enjoyable to ride. What is more important to you.

2) If you are worried about rim brake performance, you are using the brakes too much. Disc brakes will probably eventually be standard spec on road bikes, but seriously, you don't need that kind of braking performance on the road.

3) China frames and 105 spec are the value leaders. You can win any race up to pro continental on this combo.

4) Old steel bikes look great, but ride like ****. If you want to ride a bike, get a newish bike. If you want to look at your bike, get a steel frame with old campy c record/cinelli deep bars/ quill stem and mavic tubs.

I think he's talking about the ramps that help the chain go from one chainring to the next.

Yes. I always forget if the shotgun shell-loader and bicycle crank parts are elevators or ramps.

Hustler, Did you have 105 brifters? They should be fine? Just wrote them off in your accident, as I right?

I honestly can't see a difference in the shifter with the same gearing if they are the same type of cable layout.

I still have the 105 levers, they weren't damaged in the crash aside from the abrasions on the covers. They are fine but never tried a different lever, supposedly Ultegra and Dura-Ace levers have metter materials or whatever, I think they're too expensive to find out. I'm happy with what I have.

The brakes were swapped for cosmetics, everything else had a functional consideration for it's requirement and border-line "necessity". I needed a braze-on FD, bearings were broken in my RD, crank arms were shortened and shifting improved on the FD. The biggest improvement I made in shift quality was Dura-Ace cables, which are on sale at Art's Cyclrey right now, so I bought 6. Seriously, a night and day difference in shift quality from swapping cables.

I will likely end up with a 105 group, but I wont need some of the components.... try to resell them if i can.

Im going to keep my eye out for a name brand frameset (like one i may already have) because i think that it will hold the value a little better than a custom or china frame should I want to resell it.

a co-worker has these just sitting in his cube. Not thinking about taking them late at night or anything.

I have been really pleased with my SRAM kit. I have only had it for a season, but it is lightyears ahead of the old ultegra stuff I was using (emphasis on old).

My cross bike shipped with Sram. Took a new set of Ultegra STI's and derailleurs to shop and had the bike built that way out of the box. I dislike the one-gear-at-a-time thing that SRAM believes it. There are times you need to upshift a few gears at time in racing. Spinning along at 90rpm when someone attacks from 5 bikes back on a hill. I want to sweep three gears, stand up and jump without having to keep my elbows down in the drops to grab more gears as I go. The guys that "love" SRAM get it for free, the rest simply tolerate it or haven't had their coffee yet and aren't thinking clearly

How is SRAM shifting different from Shimano?

One click to taller gear, two clicks to shorter gear. Both done with the little lever. With Shimano you move the brake and shift lever to get a shorter gear. At least that's the way all my Shimano was. Now I have these same Red levers on my road bike and they are fine for me.

You can't upshift multiple gears at a time with shimano either, can you? I could go down 3, or up one. With SRAM I can go down 2 or up 1 at a time if I remember right. It has been cold here for a while so I am having trouble remembering right now. I always thought campy was the only way to upshift through a bunch of gears at once. This is all on the rear, or course.

Right, can you not "skip" gears on downshifts with SRAM? I don't really like the way downshifting works on Shimano levers because it's not precise. One sweep can be 1-3 gears with a slight variation depending upon where you are in the cassette stack. It should be on gear per sweep, like a racecar.
