Here is my Lemond sitting at the bike shop waiting to be picked up. It got a complete tune up, new cables, bar tape, tires, tubes and bottom bracket. I can not wait till christmas so I can actually ride this, it is my first road bike. It will be great to get off my mountain bike on the greenway.

My SRAM group minus RD came in. Just need to grab a few components that I don't already have (namely a wheelset and seat/post) and I will be ready to build my custom aluminum frame! Im undecided if I should build the frame for road disc or caliper brake. I have both types of brakes ready to go and if I go disc, I have a cheap set of DA22 hoops with novatec hubs I can use... but im undecided on that.












Side note, the novatec hubs seem like the freehub would spin roughly 30 degrees before the prawls will engage (this is just by hand) is this common for cheap hubs, or will I not notice it while riding? FWIW, I picked up the wheelset with Maxxis 35c tires , tubes and the DA22 rims for $20.

On to a composite post for me. The bike was making some really bizarre noises, finally tried to pull the seat post and realized something was way wrong. It took colossal strength to get it out.

How long was that sucker in there??? Jesus. I haven't seen that amount of corrosion pitting since a 1980s Bridgestone cromo frame...

Was it properly lubed?

3 months. I covered that bitch in PRO crabbon fiction paste. You should have seen all the crap on it when I yanked it out.

Do I need to worry about cleaning-out the seat-tube?

You could give it a good wipe- and maybe take a quick pass with some medium grit sand-paper to clean it up. Unless it's super lumpy i wouldn't worry about it... But Colorado doesn't have any corrosion like that, so my experience is limited.

I will say working @ tri-worlds in Hawaii the amount of salt-corrosion on everything was ridiculous. I don't want to talk about all the Ti bolts that I had to extract from snapped heads. Ugh.

Novatec hubs on my CX bike, lol. I want to build a set of Pacenti sl25s and T11s next year, but my road training freehub is breaking again.

First semi-long ride on the Van Dessel, now set up with WTB Nano 40c tires. OMG I love this thing. It's so much more capable than my old, much harder riding Carbon Crux on 35C's with **** rim brakes. It's honestly a new style of riding for me. I doubt I will ride my MTB much any more unless I'm racing it or the route is super technical and steep. I found myself bombing down Harding Truck trail (~7%/3000') hitting speeds of 30mph, bouncing over rocks, jumping water bars, late braking into switch backs and carving around at the same speed I would on my Pivot. The combination of the shock absorption and grip from the big tires and fingertip hydraulic disc braking made the death grip in the drops unnecessary. Whole descent relaxed on the hoods with two fingers on the brakes and the other two still wrapped around the bars to be able to loft the front wheel or jump if needed. With these changes, it edges closer to the performance envelope of a full XC race bike and is only a wheel change away from being a cutting edge cx race bike. Sick.

So if you guys are the money on the back, I'm pretty sure that makes me the poverty at the front.

I did a rebuild on the crappy old poverty level felt f85 road bike I've been riding. Basically kept the frame, seatpost and wheel set and replaced everything else. I built this up from the parts bin. It's a mix of 105/Tiagra with a ritchey CF fork and a bontrager wheelset. Obviously compared to what you snobs log road miles on it's a POS, but honestly it rides way better than it should for the price. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and I'm digging the no logo's look.

Frame-up rebuilds are always awesome. Some of my favorite bikes have been slapped together from whats-under-my-bench stack!

Best market for used.

Heading to Vegas, driving back to Canada up through SLC, Idaho etc and I'll be looking for a 27.5 full suspension MTB. Who has the best market for used? I'm going to guess Salt Lake area has a better bike population because of the terrain/weather. Up here nice bikes and Miatas are rarer and more money. I'd rather see it in person than trust a used shipped bike so I'll be searching the local ads when I'm down.

Used 27.5 market will be tough. We are selling them like hotcakes, and they're a little too new to have a substantial used segment going on. I'm in Denver, Co. and if you want a 26" or 29" dime a dozen.

Try calling a couple big shops on your travel loop and see if any mechanics or employees are looking to part with their bike in the off-season. A lot of us will buy in spring, sell in fall every year. Otherwise, just check craigslist in advance of the areas you intend to travel.

(If you come to Denver, i'll give you a screamer deal on a new one!)
