Used 27.5 market will be tough. We are selling them like hotcakes, and they're a little too new to have a substantial used segment going on. I'm in Denver, Co. and if you want a 26" or 29" dime a dozen.
Try calling a couple big shops on your travel loop and see if any mechanics or employees are looking to part with their bike in the off-season. A lot of us will buy in spring, sell in fall every year. Otherwise, just check craigslist in advance of the areas you intend to travel.
(If you come to Denver, i'll give you a screamer deal on a new one!)

It's that Santa Cruz 5010 in orange that floats my boat. Up here i believe they start around $3500!!

Which chainring did you go with?
Rotor, Osymetric? Once getting used to, I actually quite liked my Rotor rings. Don't know if it was purely psychosomatic, or what but they felt smoother at higher cadence. I'm not competitive at all in the road side of things, but they felt great.

I've been getting a lot of **** working for Sram and running all shimano on my bike- hence the switch to xx1. I am excited about the extra easy gear though (42t). a 34-36 easy gear on 650b wheels is not so easy in colorado. haha

A friends bike from yesterday's "ride" up Maple Springs. Snow got to about 12" deep higher up. More portaging than riding as we got further up, then 100% portaging. We were trying to make a junction at about 7.5 miles and ride down a different canyon (Harding Truck trail). Threw in the towel with about 1/4 mile to go late in the day with tired legs and turned around. Real risk of running out of light had we pushed on and only two of use had lights. Lot of fun coming back down through the powder though. 6hrs and only 44 miles including the 32 mile round trip ride to the trailhead. I think we averaging about 1.5 mph carrying the bikes up. As I was strongest, I did a lot of waiting with soggy feet in 35-50° temps. 8:14 on computer. One of the hardest days I have had on the bike ever.
