Moving to the U.S of A : Pro and Con

To the OP? Have you considered southern Ontario, BC Coast? They have very different weather from Montreal and you'd stay in Canada, avoiding immigration challenges, etc. While Alberta is cold, there's little salt use.
Also, if you like space and wilderness, how could you consider the US as an alternative? Less land, 10X more people.

I can not stress this enough, stay out of California. The beer is great but its a trap, they made the cool guns illegal for the most part and the emissions laws mean you have to bribe someone to pass your car every two years so you can "legally" drive it on the road. I can't wait to go back to the freer parts of America. That being said the weather is really nice and there are some very good roads.
Move to Kentucky. The whole insist thing is blow way out of proportion.

Seriously I've been considering less populated states. I hate big cities, the traffic, the people, the crime... it's just a big turn off for me. I'd go to the states and live in a peaceful place so I can actually enjoy the few times I go to the city. That's how I am right now. I still live on the island of montreal but barely, and whenever I get to closer to dtown I feel the sudden urge to turn back. I don't appreciate this city anymore. I've watched videos of other cities and discovering a new place sounds refreshing. lord knows I (and maybe a few of you) need to get away, for your sanity's sake. Too much of the same thing will drive any human crazy.
I'm getting my diploma and gtfo with my miata and just the stuff that can fit in it.
Edit about Cali :
cali was never really seriously considered on my part. While I do like all the nice coastal views, the ocean, the landscape and the diversity : I'm really not looking for a **** state with cars, there's too many people there. I'd definately go on a trip out there for vacation or something but never live there.
Texas is currently winning
If it's not Texas, it'll either be Virginia or some other random, hillbilly state with lots of nature where I can afford a pretty decent place for an affordable amount. (but I do know, less people = less jobs)

Northern Virginia isn't hillbilly. It is big city and big, congested suburbs around Washington DC. The western part of Virginia is hillbilly and much of the rest of the state is just country.
You want the country and you want quiet?
{shameless plug} With a small refundable security deposit I'll rent my lakehouse in Georgia for $1400 a month. We've had a couple of events there in the past. Its in the country but 30 minutes from the suburbs of the city of Atlanta and 50 minutes from the city center. It is on a 4700 acre recreational lake.

so much california hate. I'd move back there in a heartbeat because I don't give a **** about guns--even though my dad (who lives there) is a gun-toting NRA member. Also he is a car nut.
what's the point of having cars and guns if you can never get outside and enjoy using them because it's too cold or too hot? F that S.
I think because Brain doesn't really care about modding cars or owning guns, he's also a potential convert. It's so worth it.

California does have a lot of bureaucracy, but it's the most pleasant place in the US to live. Best climate, best roads, best views, best food, best beaches, best wine, second-best beer, lowest ratio of inbred hicks to normal people, fewest Wal-Marts per capita, etc.
The nice parts of the state are expensive to live in, and a lot of people are whiny pussies who can't deal with playing by the rules. That's where most of the hate comes from.

Damn snow backs wanting to jump the boarder and take our jobs!!!!
LOL
I personally think you would like the Mid West. Other than having guns very similar culturally to British Canada (no idea how it compares to Quebec, and some of the anti Quebec prejudice from British Canada has made it's way south). City life more run down and violent than Canada, but rural life very similar to Canada. If you want a big city you are better off staying up North.
If I could change anything I would force the East and West coasts to secede from the Union. They don't realize that as long as we have the Mississippi river and the St. Lawrence Seaway we can live just fine without them, but that they can't live without us and it is infuriating to have states that are dependent on you referring to the majority of the country as "the fly over states". Oh, include Chicago on that list.
As far as mechanic jobs, most are paid "book time" If a job is supposed to take 3 hours, but it takes you 5 hours you only get paid for 3 hours and the other 2 hours you are working for free. If a job is supposed to take 3 hours and you can do it in 30 min you still get paid for 3 hours, and move on to another job and make good money that week. As a new guy you get the hard to do but low book time jobs, and the senior guys get the 30 min jobs that pay 3 hours time. If the dealership you work for (or independent shop) doesn't have jobs coming in, you hang out waiting for work and get paid zero while waiting for work to come in. No idea how this compares to how it is done in Canada.
