There were posts by Robino (or something to that effect) complaining about Racing Mazda and being ripped off because he ordered a motor and didn't get the parts he spec'd. Gary closes the thread with: "Recommendation to robino: Do business with our loyal sponsors." Puh-lease. Loyalty to Miata.net has anything to do with producing good products? Having good service? It's simply being a *****, and there isn't anything wrong with that but they shouldn't pretend to be anything but.

Reading miata.net is like reading unbiased reviews in Car and Driver, unbiased against advertisers.
This is exactly what happened to me. I've been trying to tell people about the fact that BRP aka Brant was taking peoples' money for SC kits and not delivering for MONTHS!!!

When Gary banned me for being a trouble maker, he said whatever happens with a vendor, a sponsor or not is between you and the vendor.

In the end when Brant FINALLY admitted that he was broke and could not deliver the kits people PAID HIM for, the kool-aid drinkers were treating him like a ******* hero instead of a lying thief.

So now, Brant bails out and sells BRP to Barker, the company that has been making the kits and selling it to Brant for CASH ONLY for a couple of years cuz he had no credit. And it seems Barker has yet to deliver on the majority of the kits that people have already paid for.

I wonder if any more people will file a criminal complaint against BRP/Barker with the State Attorney's office?

And here lies the problem. A lot of new people take what is posted on Miata.net as gospel. And further if they see a banner ad they figure that the vendor must be good since they are advertised on miata.net.

Really becoming a sponsor buys your more than just a banner ad, it buys the credibility of miata.net. And that, is sad. Since anyone with the cash can obtain this.

Take things like "New and hot on the market" Only sponsors get their products featured. Does that mean that nobody else has new and hot products on the market?

I think the google ads will go a long way to damaging the credibility of miata.net. Now it just looks like every other forum that has sold out.

Rant rant rant.

Don't get me wrong, I value the information on miata.net. I use it as a research tool. And as such I surf it daily. The comercial aspect of the forum makes me feel ill.

I promise you that if FM pulled the plug on Miata.net, you'd see a universal change of attitude. It would go from "FM can do no wrong" to "They really weren't that good in the first place, and they've really let things slide lately"

Gary seems to be a complete moron, first he gives Robino a "recommendation"to start dealing with loyal forum sponsors, yet a "loyal forum sponsor"royally screws people out of thousands of dollars and what does Gary do?ban that member person for telling the truth.

I guess in Gary's world money talks and bullshit walks, and as long as he's getting money in his pocket nothing else matters, not even customers of "loyal forum sponsors".

Well M.net is short one regular poster... The power mods section will survive without me no doubt and I'll be living over here from now on. I really never appreciated a lot of Gary's policies. And it was wonderful firestorm and then missed out on it because I stopped going there!

But who are you gonna disagree with over here? It's a sappy lovefest!

I'll play a bit of devil's advocate too. I'm assuming it is how Gary makes a living. It's a friggin' business and a pretty successful one. Ebay charges to sell **** there. How many of you guys pay to list on ebay? I don't see the big deal about him taking a cut of the classifieds. He built a site that has a ton of car specific traffic. It's a lot easier to sell a Miata specific part on m.net than any where else. As for moderating and censorship, with all the traffic that goes through m.net, think of the info/crap ratio if there weren't mods there. The only way a mostly unmoderated forum works is if there is relatively low traffic like here.

I actually bought Gary's '90 that started Miata.net. He had the polar opposite attitude of me. "Don't turbocharge the Miata. It's a well balanced perfect car the way it is". I proceeded to put a built motor, turbo, wheels, suspension, rollbar etc. and totally bastardize his baby. He was alright with it though and was a good guy through the whole process.

I guess I don't get the m.net/FM hate over here. Not that I'm going anywhere. I starting my DIY and will have some questions (EMU mostly) and probably can provide some useful info has I've had a turbo Miata and numerous other turbo cars for the last 12 years.

I've known Markp for a while too, dating back to the miatapower mailing list days. Somebody's gotta keep him in line!

And you still don't hear much about it do you? It's strange how people are so quiet about the fact that they paid for a kit that they haven't seen in what 6 months now?

Also, BRP is NOW beta testing the ELF (or the gremlin as BRP customers are now calling it) after having been selling it for almost a year - almost sounds like Microsoft.

Honestly, I don't understand why people are not screaming in public (on M.net, and other forums) about what their experiences are. Around the time I was banned on M.Net, a M.Net member called me a shill for FFS because I always seemed to bashing BRP. Well just recently he e-mailed me to apologize to me for calling me that. He realized that I was right about BRP right after he blew up his BRP built engine and had to spend $5000+ out of pocket for a new Mazda engine on top of the $8000+ he spent for the BRP engine because BRP wouldn't reply to his request for a warranty engine. And he's not the only one who's engine blew up.

This is the kind of thing no one mentions about BRP. Sad but true.

Around the time I was banned, I helped a 21 yo kid get his money back from BRP as well as advise that guy in Texas to file a criminal complaint against BRP. That felt good to help someone out.

This is the kind of thing I wasn't allowed to say on M.Net. Gary's response to me was "tough ****, it's between you and BRP".

Yeah, but they wouldn't be irritating enough for people to dish out the money to avoid them.

I'm sure there are more than enough "self proclaimed miata profits"that will preech to others about miata performance based on your post and others they have read throughout the years.

Yep, I would have kept my mouth shut too... putting it in the middle of the thread is a typical Gary move... If he wants to make money he should realize that pissing his users off is not the way to do it.
