A guy I worked with did that also. He said he did it twice a day in the shower. He told me the best way was using distilled water and salt. He had worked out a formula of salt to water to get the correct PH, but he swore by it also.

The normal pH of blood is 7.35 - 7.45. The pH of a solution of pure water and pure sodium chloride will be exactly 7, the same as plain water.
Adding salt is done because the finer moist membranes of the human body are sensitive to salinity. When doused with pure water, the cells are damaged. Ever notice that after you rinse your eyes in the shower, they feel just a little funky? That's why. This is why contact lenses are rinsed with water that has the same salt content as the body, and why saline solution is used in IVs. Nothing to do with pH, it's all about the salt.
I still think this is gross, and it freaks me out just a little.
