Default Moving to Atlanta, ideas

Moving to Atlanta for school, well 90% sure. Maybe N Carolina if I find a good mechanical engineering school there. Mostly moving so that her 9/11 bill pays for all of hers. Anyways, looking for good racing opportunities down there and good areas to live. Actually looking for any and all ideas about the area. I would ask for specifics but don't much about there.

Check out he yellow ribbon program. Many schools will foot the difference so no need to compromise. Georgia Tech's certainly not bad though.

Yeah, the yellow ribbon only covers 3500 a year for her school. A lot of math later we'll be footing about 24k for school for her, or just move a few hours and other states cover more per credit hour and school is flat paid for. Plus we're staying at her folks for the moment so need to move anyway. An hour away or 6 doesn't make much difference.

Also personally I think ya spend years of your life dealing with **** for school and it comes down to what state your in as for what you get. Aren't we all "American's". Also you don't want to ever know the amount of money the 2 of us have witnessed in person the truck loads of money we watched the military almost literally burn.

PS Shooter: Denver is on the list of moving to.

Wait...you actually want to move to this crime infested hoodrat shithole? Sure GT is a great school...if you can make it through the gauntlet of robberies and home invasions right around the campus (this **** is on the news CONSTANTLY). Other than that...we have Road Atlanta about an hour north east of the city and a new private track about 1.5 hrs north of the city. There are several race teams based out of Georgia too. But Atlanta is still a shithole....terrible air (seriously...take up smoking if you want to breather filtered air when outside), nighmare traffic (which the city has no plans on improving), mass-transit that is a joke (even L.A. has better public transit), it's suburbia hell outside 285 where everyone's life revolves around the newarby WalMart and Mall, if you don't stereotype or profile people...you will..and may end up a raging racist too, if you want to know anything about GA politics jsut look at Newt Gingrich as he represents the state rather well because no one can elect someone worth a **** and lastly...the people here suck at driving.

As far as neighborhoods, the NE side is the best bet if you're ITP. If you really feel the need to move here or just look for any neightborhood where you find young white women walking dogs at 11pm at night....that is where you'll be the safest.

Most people (the civilized, non hood trash) want to move out... you're going to wrong way. Go to NC.

I am an outstanding exampe of this.

OP mentioned Denver...a much wiser choice. Austin should also be considered as UT is a great school as well. I still have a feeling we will end up on Portland in a couple of years.

Portland FTW! If I move out of my area, Portland is a the top of my list. But I'm not sure if I could make that big of a move right now. I had planned to be there by now, but things didn't work out as I planned, as is typically the case.

Move to Atlanta and You Will Die. Like Baltimore but bigger and worse.

Portland. Lovely city. Superb food. Three full time salaried jobs exist in the city, each rotated among 1 million people in a co-op groupshare.

UTK has a good mech engineering program I believe. But if you don't like football, your SOL.

Lolz, if you're in the medical field, it's a great place to work. We have a million hospitals, other jobs exist, just have to know where to look.

Listen to Doppel, his stories scared me away from ever wanting to go near Atlanta.

Apparently Atlanta is out, I'm a little numb to the hood rats tho and already a little closet racist from the military. I grew up in the not so nice area of Los Angeles. If ya want to know look up LA riots in the 90's and that being said never going back to that ****. Already set for her and I's conceal permit for here and the other states nearby and we're both ex military cops. Figure that will cover the less determined muggers.

Now I guess the question is anyone know of good Mech Eng schools in Charolotte, NC? Ares to live? Good places to mount a glock holster in a miata? Can't fit in the sparcos with a gun on, New Mexico it just went in between the seat and console. Also a warning for anyone I meet in said area, I'm a noob and haven't made it to the track....yet.

Thanks for the info so far!

Denver is awesome but you'd be better off going to the school of mines in Golden or up to Colorado State in Fort Collins. If you can tolerate hippies well, CU Boulder is also an option. In the end though, I think you need to pick a school that fits your needs and budget and go there regardless of how awesome or crappy the area is. You'll only be there for 4-5 years. Oh and I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you to check out my alma mater Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana.

I agree with this. You don't find the best school by just looking at cities, you look at the school. Make a short list of schools that are what you need and then you can bring in the environment to the decision.

I hate Atlanta, believe me, I really don't like living here. But GA Tech is a great school.
