I think you would have to live there to understand the highways. Last time I was there I think it took 5 or 6 different freeways, with poorly marked turnoffs I might add, to get from Newark airport to NYC. No sat nav back then.

I have driven through western New Jersey and it is really weird as their is some nice country side. The yank accent is still very prevolent and that kind of throws it all off. Feels like New Yorkers that have a weekend country house, only they live there full time. Something straight out of the twilight zone if you ask me.

Just the fact that the Texas state flag is the only one allowed to fly equal to the US flag (by law) should be enough to convince the naysayers about the superiority complex that ensues from the greatest state of them all...

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about folks from Texas ...
If someone in a Lowe's store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you may live in Texas ;
If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in Texas ;
If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Texas ;
If 'Vacation' means going anywhere south of Dallas for the weekend, you may live in Texas;
If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Texas;
If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Texas;
If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in Texas;
If you carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Texas;
If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph --you're going 80 and everybody's passing you, you may live in Texas ;
If you find 60 degrees 'a little chilly,' you may live in Texas ;
If you actually understand these jokes, and share them with all your Texas friends, you definitely live in Texas .
...

I have to agree about Austin. I've had family down there for 25+ years. Ten years ago I spent every other work week down there - commuting on 35 between Stassney & 79 during the week (our office was in Hutto). Way back then (seriously, not that long ago) the traffic wasn't ridiculous. Round Rock wasn't a ******* metropolis, and you could still (usually) sail through town on the upper deck of 35. Now it's a ******* zoo. I love going down there to hang out at Lake Travis with the cousins, but traffic is so goddamn atrocious that we rarely venture south of 183 & MoPac.
Dallas, for whatever reason, decided to actually plan for most growth and build ******* roads to handle said growth. It's missing a lot of Austin's character but if you get bored in one place, you can at least get across town in a reasonable stretch of time. I'm outside the second loop (635) and I can still make it to downtown in 15 minutes. Go figure.
I was born in Big D and I've lived around here for most of my time. As much as I sometimes bitch about the influx of douchers, our lack of respect for anything historical, and the lack of **** to do that doesn't involve A/C and beer (not that I'm really complaining, but would it kill us to have a few more frisbee golf courses around here???); the place is home and I know it well. Feels comfy when I get back from a long trip.
