Yes, Pop is a regular on this board.

No, we're not all idiots and jack-asses with sticks up our asses over at "the other forum."

I don't know why the thread would've been locked, other than maybe his crude sticker on the back of the car, but I doubt Gary even noticed it or knew what it meant. Besides, that's not a good enough reason to lock a thread.

on other underground miata sites, we refer to the people on m.n as "pointies".

the bad arguments that start there I guess, usually spurned on by bad info and opinion instead of fact.

I understand about miata.net, I was more wanting to know where the term "pointy" came from.

a while back, about 99 or 00, there was a small group of people who were starting threads on m.n in an off topic forum that was deemed "inappropriate", one in particular involved the word 'poontang'. threads were locked or deleted, accounts were deleted, and more.

those people formed an underground website that was a loose congregation of miata owners all over the US and parts of the world. most of the topics are banter and humor, though some were really very good. quite a number of the members on that forum were accomplished drivers and very knowledgeable about the car and it's workings.

"pointies", "whine and cheesers" developed from that board because of the inane replies and focus of discussion on m.n. so, say you post asking about piston differences in the 1.8 motor, by about the 5th post, you have someone on m.n spouting the benefits slick 50 or some ****. it becomes abundantly clear that the people replying have no clue what they're talking about.

those people on that underground site are some of my closest friends today. a few are on ths site. a few others still can be found patrolling m.n pointing out the absurd and the ridiculous. we call ourselves darksiders.

Hahaha... I've only been a member of m.n for a few weeks now (I just bought my Miata three weeks ago), but I have noticed this already...lol

There isn't a whole lot of technical discussion going on over there. Which is fine I suppose. I'm used to Honda-Tech where we would have hundred page long threads about positive crankcase ventilation and catch cans, which included diagrams, scientific testing procedures, theories etc.

Now Now Now - SPIKE!
We have some members here that are CLOSELY affiliated with M.NET.
Please be kind to others and treat them with respect. POP VII is one of the greatest guys you could meet and he is also a MODERATOR over there. I would surely hate to see him not post here because of others beliefs that they should actually keep to themselves.
If you keep it up I will start erasing your posts!

LOLA,I have respect for POP VII and I think he contributes alot on this forum.
What I don't like are the attitudes that most of the MODS have over at miata.net,it just seems that all they do is just babysit the forum and not let anyone have any fun.

As long as you stay in the Power, Suspension or Engine Conversions forums over there, you'll get plenty of technical banter that is quite useful. Those forums have a higher useful-posts-to-idiotic-bullshit ratio than we do over here.
