My LGS had mini mags for $36/500. They also had the exact Kimber I've been wanting since I decided to start this new hobby. Crazy coincidence and I wish I didn't stop by and notice it.

I got around to fluting the barrel on my more recent 10/22. I had to first make the fixtures and adapters to mount a tail stock and rotary head with chuck onto a bridgeport. It came out pretty good, but if I find a factory blued barrel for dirt cheap on ebay I may try it again. I'm trying to get the rifle as light as possible for no good reason other than to tinker and this took off a whopping .125 lb OMGGGGGGG. I can't wait to see how far out the flyers are now. haha. Now to spend weeks carving another .125 lb off the birch stock.

The skinny factory tapered one? Because you can have mine for the price of shipping. I don't think its been fired since I bought it in like 2001.

Just got a couple of emails from Midway today (this one was for a 1400 round bucket of Remington Golden Bullet I ordered over a year ago). Interestingly, I purchased two buckets for $86 each (43% more expensive) from Gander Mountain a few days ago:

Loud as hell, kicks like a mule on steroids, and fireball that shoots out 2-3 feet from the muzzle. It is pretty accurate for something I cut short with a hack saw. We took it to the range today and I put around 40 rounds through it (I'll really feel that in the morning). I was shooting a 8" steel gong @ 100 yards with very few misses. The bipod worked out pretty well. I didn't shoot off hand until about round 25 and my shoulder had so much trauma at that point I couldn't hold it steady. The rifle weighs around 9 pounds wet and the balance, even with the bipod, is great.

I have never did my own loads but got lucky today because it looks like someone went to the range late last night and threw down a bunch of brass. It is rare to find any at the public range. I'm not sure how many rounds I picked up (300-400?) but it was about 75% .223 with the remaining being .40 and .45ACP and a few 9mm mixed in there. It was all pretty muddy and I am washing it in the sink now.

Range report #2:

Tighter groups with the Wolf Gold than with the **** Tula but I am still not satisfied. I shot the 8" gong at 100 yards with very little difficulty. However, shooting paper did not give me very good groups. I did find that my castle nut had come loose (ordered a wrench a bit ago and will stake the nut after I tighten it) but I don't know if that really affects the accuracy. I did remove the slide fire stock that came with the rifle because there is a lot of play in it but again I don't know how much that affects my groups. I consider myself an above average shooter and find it hard to believe that I have reached the limit with the PSA so something else must be causing my problems. I still have not done any trigger work on the rifle but it will be getting torn down shortly.

Edit:
Reminder - the problem I had earlier was not being able to hit the 8" gong at 200 yards. I have not tried it at that distance after doing the "upgrades". The 200 yard range is a private range at my friends gun club and I am limited to 100 yards until I hook up with him again.

Just sold my R700... "Lafonda" had a squishy Hogue stock and a short fat barrel. She was good for a quickie, but just not a girl who I felt like going the distance with. Most of the money will go towards paying off my buddy for all the reloading equipment he sold me, stille owe him a $1k... but some will turn into a .308 bcg and some 6.8 Hornady dies. Theres nothin' like crisp $100's straight from the cash machine.

May I ask for more specifics? Caliber, stock/finish, and about what you got for it?

R700 20" SPS Tactical .308. It had a Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12 and a Harris 6-9" bipod. About 150rds through it, shot .8" groups with 165gr Gameking handloads (rough, untuned handloads) and the factory trigger as it was set out of the box.

Buds has had the gun for sale as low as $580 in the past few months and Remington has a $40 rebate on SPS models. Plus, it was subject to the trigger recall. I was asking $800 and ended up splitting the cost of a new Timney with him. I let it go for $740, which means he got a free Bipod. I was pleased with the sale price... been advertised for 6 weeks and the interest had dwindled to nothing after Black Friday.

That sounds like a reasonable price.

Recently, I was looking for something else, and ended up finding my Ruger M77 online. I was shocked at the prices they are going for.

I've been really thinking about a 700 but there are so many types out there that I am confused on which to purchase. I don't mind getting something used to keep the cost down. Seen a couple of them locally on armslist but only inquired about one so far (guy didn't get back to me).

Regular production 700 actions are all the same as far as I know. BDL or ADL... and then pick your "look" are what affect the price, which is why you can pick up an ADL at Walmart on sale for $300, or a Police model for $1k with he same action. I have done a lot of homework on what the best value in a full production bolt-action is, and it's not an R700.

If you are looking for an entry bolt gun with no intention to mod, its a current tossup with the Ruger American or Savage 10/11 for bang-for-the-buck. If you're looming to immediately modify stock/trigger/mag/barrel... then your absolute best bet is a pawnshop 700-ADL.

If you were in the market for a .308 bolt gun and wanted to make every penny go the distance, I'd buy a Ruger American, and throw on a refurbished Nikon Buckmasters or Bushnell Trophy on it.
Natchez always has refurbished Nikon in stock. And Xmas sales have yet to be released.

Based on what Ive seen so far, Im gonna predict that Xmas sale stuff is going to be just as good as Black Friday tuff... be patient!

Got new toy!

AK 47 MINI DRACO 7.62X39MM PISTOL

Shoots great and surprisingly accurate for a 6" barrel. Need to look into the info needed to file for the tax stamp, this thing needs a folding stock bad.

Don't dirty up the wood too much. Slap a coat of this on it (I put it on with a folded up paper towel):

I am really digging the fake stock on mine with no tax stamp:

Yea i have that "support" not stock. (stupid law) Just think a folding would be perfect for it. What suppressor is that? Like it? Currently it belches flames a few feet....very cool at night btw.

It is a booster not a suppressor (common upgrade - watch your thread size). Put it on for the military look. I guess if I was trying to sport a military look I would put a folding stock on it but I just can't get myself to write that check. I might do it at some point in the future...
