Went to the grand opening of a Dicks/Field&Stream here in town this morning. Was set to buy a Savage Rascal for the kid and they didn't have black of all colors, she insists on black. He said they normally stock the black ones, and to just call before I make the trip, gave me a card.

They're $149 in store... 6% sales tax= $158 otd. Then the $25 Savage Rebate = $133. Hoping for a coupon at some point.

They had an immense amount of .22lr... probably 500,000 rds out on the floor, including a whole pallet of 1400ct BOB's. I'm buying all the Federal AutoMatch I see at $20 box because that ammo is ******* great. They had 500'ish boxes, so I bought 2... didn't want to be greedy. I've got 5k rds of the stuff already at home.

When the Field & Stream opened here I got a ton of $5 and 20% off coupons. They would send one almost every week if you sign up for their rewards program. If you didn't sign up in the store, do it online. Very much worth the emails they send.

Every time I got one of their postcards I would buy .22lr and fishing tackle with it. I was able to get a little over 2000 rounds of .22lr at an average of $0.04/round. Filled up a decent sized tackle box dirt cheap too. Now I only get the coupons about once a quarter.

I got a 15% off ONLINE only purchases when I signed up for the mailer the other day. I've had a SCORE card for a long time now but just use my phone number at Dicks... just got online and actually activated an account... will see if it registers my phone number and combines everything. I may have to call to see if I have any rewards pending.

decent price if you dont' need/want a grip in your LPK
But PSA has the same fgc less lpk with a grip for less. They also have this which I'm thinking about at psa. Its $30 more than just the ammo. Or the lpk makes the ammo 25 cents a round depending on how you look at it. PSA Magpul MOE Lower Build Kit (Black) & American Eagle .223 55gr FMJBT Ammo 1000rds

My plates arrived today!! They came with the pocket declaration/constitution . I plan on these going in our get home bags. Level IV with a 30.06 AP rating. Good prices and timely email responses despite being busy. +1 for midwest armor.

I've always wanted to get armor but I'm worried I'd never wear it due to the heat and how no one ever shoots at me. Is the idea that you just put it on in case of a hurricane or a riot or something? Or do you guys just wear them all the time?

For me, i bought them for a couple reasons. They will eventually be banned if these armored shooters keep killing LEOs. I live close enough to Baltimore (work closer) that it is a good idea. In Maryland, it is VERY difficult to get a carry permit, so i am doing everything i can defensively.

Putting one in a backpack with a compartment for a plate affords you protection without drama. I am working on getting the plate at the correct height. Plus, i can take the bag to work and have some protection in the rare event of workplace violence etc.

I have a plate carrier but i dont see myself walking around outside with it unless the **** has hit the fan.

I ALWAYS wear my armored codpiece. (Even though I wasn't a Marine)

ShootingTargets7 is giving anyone who registers an account $10 credit.
They sell AR500 steel targets. I have been very happy with the gong targets I bought from them.
Use this link: https://shootingtargets7.com/store/?...F1aXNpdERtUTQ9
This is a refer a friend type deal. You get $10 for registering through this link. If you spend $100 I get $10.
If you do buy a target I would recommend getting their chain mounting kit. You aren't going to save any money buying the hardware at HD and it holds the target at the proper angle.

This is LaFawnduh2, and her black *** is ready for deer season. I traded some of my .22lr stash for that Nikon P-308 on her and have been working some new loads with 125gr SST's. I've been a 168gr Accubond guy and had sworn off Hornady forever after their ELD bullshit... but those SST's are ******* death.

Last year during my Texas hunting trip, the owner had recently hi-fenced and we were under management tags... it was fun. This year, he's bought a bunch of bred does and our rules of engagement are pretty liberal... anything with less than 8pts and any does without yellow ear-tags are to be taken. I'm taking my 6.8spc laser cannon and LaFawnduh2.

Last year, Hornady spent months leaking information that they were going to release something that would revolutionize shooting sports in the US... they sold it like it was on par with cold fusion. The hype was ridiculous, it got a lot of people really excited because Hornady has been a "no-****" company forever... still very Mom & Pop and a huge supporter of all things 'Merica.

Some rumors were of a small consumer-grade doppler radar unit for tracking bullets inflight and a few other things that would be truly awesome for the masses.

When they finally let the cat out of the bag, what they had done was taken several decades-old random ideas about bullet-making and thrown them into one round, the ELD-X. They had some completely bullshit (and offered zero proof, still haven't) that the plastic tips certain modern polymer-tipped hunting bullets would melt inflight and cause bullet instability and inaccuracy, so they made "special plastic" tips that don't melt... and they threw in all their name-brand stuff "AMP Jacket" and "Interlock" stuff, which is the same thing every other manufacturer does that they throw a special name on and call it their own. Remington Core-Lokt, Nosler Accubond, Swift A-Frame, Speer Hot-Cor... all the same ****!

They did manage to design a very high BC bullet that they claim expands over a large velocity spread. High BC (Ballistic Coefficient) means that the bullet is very slippery in the air and retains it's speed (energy) and accuracy over longer distances. THAT'S ******* GREAT IF YOU'RE SHOOTING DEER AT 500+ yards, which like 0.1% of hunters ever do.

It was a huge let-down to a lot of people who thought that Hornady was going to "give" them something to buy that other companies just couldn't do because Hornady is so awesome. And it ended up being something that literally 1/1000 medium and large game hunters might ever be able to take advantage of... and there are already a lot of bullets on the market that do the same thing.

However... my vitriol could only last so long. I swore off Hornady for almost a year and am back for one reason. I've shot a lot of deer with both factory ammo and handloads with a lot of different calibers, weights, and bullets... factory Hornady 120sst's in 6.8spc are the most reliable deer-killing-on-the-spot round I've ever shot (it could be the $400 barrel I've got though). Anyways, I'm going to give their 125sst's in .308 a shot this year (from my $125 barrel) and leave my 168 Accubonds in the truck.

We're shotgun only in most of NH I really want to see how a deer reacts to this compared to normal sabot slugs.

I would have to imagine that it would react in roughly the same way as any deer that gets shot with a well placed 12ga standard slug - panic, attempting to flee, falling down, and dying. ;-)

Those types of rounds are marketing bullshit to rednecks or zombie hunters. Anybody hunting with that is somebody I don't have any interest in being around... they're not out there for the same reasons I am.

I've taken 4 100'ish lb does with 1oz 12ga rifled slugs at around 30yds... it's kinda sad. Perfect circular entry hole and about a 5" exit wound taking half it's insides with it. The pure lead round mushrooms to about 1" diameter and exits with some sort of vaccum/suction effect of liquefied lungs/heart/guts. On a larger animal where all the energy is internal, it's gotta be like a bomb going off inside. These were times when I went out for turkey and a deer wandered up... trying to be dead silent in the blind removing a choke and swapping in a slug for a field load is nearly impossible.

Sounds like the 1 oz. slug would be an interesting thing for slowing down a handful of home invaders coming down your hallway. I imagine the number two and number three guy in the hall would forget why they were there pretty quickly. I hope I never have to hear about it.

Any shotgun round at any home-invasion distance (inside 20 feet) is going to make an enormous mess. Shotguns inside the home look great on TV, but in reality are really a terrible choice. But if we're talking about ammo, I've done the homework and it's tried and true #4buck for me. Just regular Remington Express stuff from Walmart. There are advantages and disadvantages to going heavier or lighter, but #4 strikes the right balance for my perceived need.

However, my primary "bump in the night" weapon is my G19 and a 1400lumen handheld flashlight. I'm actually in the market for a full-size 9mm, and thinking M&P. Anyways, the wife retreats to the far side of the bedroom, calls 911 and activates the alarm home. I assume a defensive position at the top of the stairs, kids retreat to their closets... and we wait for the police. Everybody lives except maybe the guy didn't hear me yelling that I'd shoot if he tried to come up the stairs.

Changed my mind on teaching my 8yr old to shoot on a single-action revolver... decided I wanted a full-feature gun with all the controls and went on a search. Ruger SR22 won hands down. Cheapest place I found online was $300 for the blue one, but they're normally $325 or more, then FFL... so basically $350. I checked a few places and then did something I don't normally do, checked Armslist. HOWDY, barely used asking $320. I offered $300 and he bit. It also has a $150 Crimson Trace tac-light on it... so basically I made $200 when I bought this gun.

Guy was legit, insisted on ID's and seeing my orders. Gun seems brand-new, has stickers on it for $360 from LGS. The big/small grips just slide on and off... kinda pinched at the top with a couple tabs, and won't come loose... takes some strength to get them off, but easy-cheesy, no screws or pins. Can't wait to shoot it.

The new Palmetto State Armory store open on Saturday about 10 minutes from my house. I will probably go by and check it out. Don't really have any money for guns right now. I do need to pick up a few lowers before Hilldog becomes president though.

I am my CCI Minimags to go back to being $5.50 for 100 rounds and available anytime at walmart. Then I will get back into shooting. Ammo cost has killed any of my desire to do anything with firearms.
