Whaddya y'all think about this one?
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/car/715750642.html
Has anybody else noticed lately the prices people are asking for RWD imports? Miata's have never been huge in the competitive drift scene although there are quite a few decent examples out there... but the "craze" seems to be driving RWD prices through the roof. 90's Supra's have always held their value extremely well. 240's are still a dime-a-dozen simply because they made so many. If 240's had only been produced in Supra quantities.... I bet they'd be worth a fortune. A decent AE86 is worth more now than they were new and has been for several years.
I'm just curious if people think a car like this is worth the price. The cost to reproduce the quality (if not an identical parts list) including buying a decent car to build on would be right up there with what he's asking. I know if I added up every single receipt I've spent on mine over the past 2 years it would be in the $6k-$7k range and that doesn't include the car and I don't have anywhere near that kind of parts list.
I don't mind buying used parts, but I'd never thought about buying somebody elses "setup". I've kinda enjoyed my trial-and-error successes and failures. It's why I'm so smart If all goes according to plan, in a year I'll have a nice '99 to work on. It's gonna be interesting to see what I can get for the money with regards to the car, but I think I've got the turbo/motor plan worked out and it's gonna be in the $6-$7k range. A low mileage '99 with a rollbar/tires/wheels/suspension/etc... should still be $6k-$7k. Now I'm at $14k, which is what this guy would probably come down to??? It makes a guy think.

I think it will be a tough sell. I think anyone with 15k just lying around isnt lookin to buy a 15 year old Miata, atleast i wouldnt be. Im sure alot of us will at some point have just as much invested in our cars but that usually take years.

First point: that car looks like riced out trash on the exterior.
You can pay 14k for that car, and you wont know what all is wrong with it and the little tidbits of info that come with building your own car. If your really that interested there is a built 1.6 asking 17k here in Tysons Corner comes with "300 rwhp" and stretched 195s. Woopy.

I;m sure many of you know that i bought my 02 with A LOT of the work done to it. Yes, i have made the car LOOK completely different and have had everything tuned. But, i did the research on the car before deciding to buy. I'm glad I did... it's a hell of a car. But I payed what KBB says the car was worth stock. That's the difference. It's very hard to sell a car for 3 times the book value because you're a ******* moron who think you can get back 100% of the value of the parts you put into it. ****, look how much i sold my 99 for with all the **** I had on it...$7k.
So that guy who is selling that car is full of ****. Honestly, i could see a solid $8k for the car. For 15K i'd expect to see the FM kit updates with the bigger intercooler and silocone piping, Hydra, a FLAWLESS body, maybe some rare (cool) parts and expensive wheels like Volks or something.
Also, on his "price list", it looks like we just thumbed around on a few sites and picked the highest/msrp price on all that stuff. FIAMM horns $50? ****, i got mine for $19.95 + tax at Advance Auto.

One day I sat down and started adding up my receipts.
The amount of money doesn't really matter to me, as long as it makes me happy. I figure I don't gamble, I quit smoking, and I hardly drink anymore. My love for skateboarding isn't really an expensive hobby, and I'm not a big new clothes guy anymore. So really after bills are paid up, the little blue moneypit gets attention.
I will say though, not having a GF for the first time in yeaarrss is ******* sweet. Not only do I get to do whatever the **** I want, whenever, but I don't have to spend a dime.

Car looks like it's in good condition and kept up. But I wouldn't pay a premium for a nearly decade old 50k mile motor. I'd call it a $7k car. I'd be looking for a well done NB (like Dopple's) in the $15k range.
