Good Afternoon Everyone! I really could use some help. I have a Link MKII on my 93' 1.6l with a TD05H turbo using Flying Miata MAP, IAT sensors and an AEM WB02. I am having an intermittent spark issue during start up that comes and goes. Sometimes It cranks without spark for 2 or 3 tries then fires right up or sometimes it starts on the first crank. Once its running, it runs smoothly without issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on the cause of this issue?

I have been trying to diagnose this issue for sometime now and have been through the programming, checked the Cam Angle Sensor and resistance on the coil packs. Is this a symptom of sensor wearing out like bad initial readings from the MAP or CAS OR... is this something to do with the Link ECU spark signal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty basic but... are you allowing your ECU to boot up before cranking? You can sometimes here a faint click when the ECU is ready. At least mine does.

Yeah I let the ecu boot up for a couple seconds before cranking.

How do you know there is no spark? If the engine fails to start running on its own during a cold start you may not have the Start Prime factor high enough. Start Prime is Z715. Try setting it in the 75 to 85 range. If that does not do it, increase the values of Zf200 and Zf300 10 points higher than Zf205 and 305 respectively.

I had a timing light hooked up while cranking. The Light only started flashing on the 3 or 4 try at turning it over then started and ran smoothly with consistent flashing from the timing light. I can definitely smell the fuel loading up on the later cranks due to the plugs not firing and blowing out the unburnt fuel. I have the Start Prime Z715 set at the standard 50 for now.

OK, your on the right track. I do not know what problem within the ECU would cause this.
