Dim’s Kmiata Progress Thread
Figured I’d log my recent work on the forums since it looks like this project will make it to the road.
99 started as a donation car at the auction. Listed with clean title, 94k original, 5 speed. Top was ripped and looked to have been down for years, everything stock, no radio. This was mid ‘18 about 2 years ago.
Was into Honda’s, got into e36’s a bit and that’s what lead me to the Miata with rwd. Something about the underdog factor. I put a red soft top on it, brakes and rotors all around, 1 rear caliper and an oil change and hit the road. Cheap drag wheels kicking around came in handy, new s drives, used koni/eibach combo.
Treated me well. After about 8 months driving no problem I took the journey to Michigan from Mass. on the way back my alternator went, simple fix but I’d say a successful trip. That’s when I said I owe this car something.
Long story short, came across swap kits like the v8 roadster and said I would go for it but the kswap was more realistic. Local listings had a full kswap up for sale out of CT so I jumped on it. Dude wouldn’t budge on price but i later learned it was well worth it.
So I racked up the kit, intake, Kpro, blah blah all the odds and ends so “I wouldn’t be off road long”. That was 8/9 months ago and I’m just now getting last things finished.
So this is where I currently stand with the swap in and starting, driving, idling fine. Haven’t done any hard runs since I’m waiting on a T fitting for oil pressure, some exhaust wrap, last exhaust vband, n prob 3 other things I’m forgetting to post.
Hope this is a friendly community. I’m not the smartest with diagnosing but don’t give up easy. That’s prob what got me through all the minor/simple things I ran into that I look back on now as common sense. Thanks for looking.
