Default Noob from Istanbul / Turkey

Hello all, I'm Ali from Istanbul / Turkey. I'm 26, I work as a logistics specialist in an international retailer. I like cars, track racing, listening to music, playing music, photography and bunch of other social activities.

I bought my first Miata 20 days ago. It's a NA 1991 1.6 L Manual Transmission and VLSD equipped car @ 136,000 KM.
Not what I would have chosen if I had options but we don't have that many Miata's here in Turkey so I had to go for the one with the least rust and best condition.

It needs a paint job and a complete overhaul on the suspension and steering.

I'm planning to make it a daily drive car with occasional track use.

I'm not planning to go for power in the following 3 or 4 months but if I like driving the car after the suspension overhaul, I will consider getting it turbocharged with all the supporting mods (Diff, Transmission, Suspension, etc.) within one year.
For the time being, I can't enjoy the car that much because of the crappy suspension.

Thats it for now. I'll end my introduction with a picture of my car.

Looks like you found a nice one, complete with hardtop! I would imagine that the Miata scene is not huge, but I would also wager that it gets quite a few looks.

Suspension work really transforms the car, every bit as much as forced induction. Sounds like you are headed in the right direction.

It does in fact turn a lot of heads, not a surprise since it's rearer than Ferrari in Turkey

I do know Godless Commie in person, our houses are 5 minutes away from each other. It's a big advantage to have such a Miata enthusiast with great knowledge, experience and a great personality (to say the least) around for guidance.

He does seem like a nice guy. We have talked some in the past. I shipped him a big bore kit for his scooter that I bought for him off of ebay because the seller wouldn't ship internationally and he facilitated getting me a set of Maxigauges from the "other" Hakan for my V8 Miata. Both times money was exchanged with no concern that the product would be shipped even if it did span multiple continents.

Welcome to the forum! Yes, Hakan is very knowledgeable and should be a great help. It sounds like you have a really good handle on what you need to do to upgrade. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Welcome! Just one question completely off the turbo Miata subject: Istanbul was Constantinople, now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople...
Why did Constantinople get the works?

Wow, song lyrics from circa 1990. We really shouldn't subject the new guy to that, haha.

Hello there

You mentioned the paint may be suspect?

Might be surprised what a good polish will do for faded single stage paint. You can do it by hand to test the result, but I would definitely recommend a good DA polisher and some appropriate pads/compound. I could extrapolate if you want... suspect the cost of the gear to do the refurb would be a LOT less than a respray!

There are sun burns on the body and minor rust in some places. I may make the car look a little better with a good polish but the rust will grow if it doesnt get fixed. I'll take pictures of the car in the morning and post it here to better explain the current situation of the paint.

It was intentional, twerking seems to be what all the cool kids are doing these days. Plus Turks twerking painted a funnier mental image than the original lyrics.

Nice to see you on this forum, Ali..

I'm sure you will find mt.net a whole lot more interesting (and funnier) than what passes for a car forum at home.
That, and rainbow ponies.

Hoş geldin.

(btw, please don't tell anyone here that I claim my car makes 4000 whp at idle on the local forums over here..)
