Default New To MS. Need Some Help.

I am doing ITB's and considering different forms of engine management, would this work?

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...unit-p-34.html

Plus

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/p...products_id=43

What I do is use the harness and it plugs into ECU, then follow wire names to origional cars harness?

How hard of an install is that? SOUNDS easy. But it can't just be boom boom one weekend done right?

I know PNP is awesome, but this is a budget build, a VERY budget build.

Is that all I would need to make the car run? No AFM, switches to MAP, all with what I linked?

I am guessing thngs like AIT sensor and all can be thrown in later with my ITB setup?

How do I get a base map for my car? How is it installed?

I am interested in learning about DIY tuning, ECU, data logging, etc. It has always been an interest and I am wanting to go to school for it, so no bashing. Thanks!

Simon

See if they are still building them, PnP and very reasonably priced. Not much more expensive that that.

Build your own 2.2 board. Buy a wideband O2 sensor. The kit comes with DB37 connector to make your own harness. You could be MS'd in one weekend for right around $300 said and done.

Read the DIY MS HowTo linked in my signature.

Some questions, first, what program do I use on my laptop? Can the PNP program (from your MSPNP faq) work? Mega Tune it is called on my desktop. I open it though and it asks what PNP it is such as AFM or removed. I opened it up to play with, AWESOME stuff!!!

2. Is this the board I need? http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...ase-p-128.html

3. This harness? http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/1...eady-p-43.html

4. In this diagram http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/harness_MS_pinouts.jpg, what does cut to ECU mean? Is that photo the stock ECU? Or the MS harness?

5. I am doing ITB's which is the reason behind the MS setup. I can't use a AFM which this replaces with a MAP, I need a AIT sensor and some other things I believe, this can handle all of that right? The wiring harness from my viewing shows the wires are there...do I simply just hook them up to the sensors?

6. What is the easiest way to wire the MS in? Keep stock ECU to handle fan and alt? Or get rid of factory ECU entirely?

7. http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/harness/harness009.jpg That photo I am confused. What is the yellow connector, where does it go? Is that for the factory ECU and then the silver part is the DB37 and that goes into the MS? Then what...? Mainly confused on the yellow part lol.

8. http://i31.tinypic.com/2ymd0kz.jpg Here on the graph all the labeled items come with the board right? So I solder them into their respectful number spots? Then the images below you took follow those?

I think that's it for now question wise. GREAT writeup I answered some of my own questions looking for things I didn't understand that I do now.

I will PayPal you some money for your help lol.

I am 100% SET on making my own now!!!!

ONE LAST QUESTION http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...unit-p-34.html that one vs the board I posted above, what is the difference?

Yes megatune will work on your laptop, that is what you use to tune MS.

2. Is this the board I need? http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...ase-p-128.html
Yes that board will work, you can save a couple bucks by not getting the black case model though.

3. This harness? http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/1...eady-p-43.html
You don't need to buy any harness, you make your own. The MS kit comes with a connector you just solder wires to it.

4. In this diagram http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/harness_MS_pinouts.jpg, what does cut to ECU mean? Is that photo the stock ECU? Or the MS harness?
This is referring to people doing parallel installs. You cut the wire for the stock ecu coil and injector outputs so that MS is the only ECU sending signals to the injectors and coils.

5. I am doing ITB's which is the reason behind the MS setup. I can't use a AFM which this replaces with a MAP, I need a AIT sensor and some other things I believe, this can handle all of that right? Yes this can handle MAP and IAT. You just hook up the sensors and calibrate them in Easytherm so MS reads the correct temps.

6. What is the easiest way to wire the MS in? Keep stock ECU to handle fan and alt? Or get rid of factory ECU entirely?
If you have A/C keeping the stock ecu is easiest, you just wire MS in parallel. You can let MS control fans if you want. NA alternators are internally regulated and the NB alternators can have regulators retrofitted if you wanted.

That is a standlone wiring harness for MS. The yellow connector is so you can just plug the stock wiring harness into that yellow connector without modifying anything.

Yes the kit comes with all of the components. You want to order the pullup resistor modkit though as well so you can do the ignition mods for a miata.

That one is assembled, the other is not.

Awesome!!!

So the only soldering in the board specific to a Miata is the diagram for the ignition mods using the pullup resistor?

I have no A/C, so I just wire the wires coming from the DB37 plug straight into the factory harness getting rid of my stock ECU and plug all together?

Thanks again!!

Sorry for all the questions, hopefully I am helping someone else as well with them, but my comp. has no serial port, will MS work if I buy a USB to serial adapter? Such as "USB RS-232 Serial Adapter DB-9 Male"

The plug for the connection on MS is DB-9 correct?

In my cart I have the 2.2 board and all linked above, the pullup resistors, I guess a USB to serial adapter, tuning cable comes with the board? Anything else?

VERRYYYY excited about this, always LOVED the DIY thing especially data logging and ECU stuff. Soldering shouldn't be an issue I have a lot of experience soldering small wires to boards.

Heres a suggestion if you want the least frustration in the future.
Read the DIY howto, read the mega manual, search the forum, post.

In that order.

Get the Stim as well, you will need it to test the MS as you build it.
You also need to order a straight through DB9 cable from them if you don't have one.
