VSS question
Vehicle speed sensors... I thought only ones equipped with ABS had it?
I was reading this thread:
https://www.miataturbo.net/aem-59/launch-control-you-48648/
This part was what caught my attention:
Is this true that all 94 and newer have VSS? if so how do input it into the megasquirt, or MSPNP in my case? is it picking up some signal from the speedometer cable?
seems by that thread the back of the gauge cluster will not work? Or am i misreading parts?
looks to just use the clutch switch... so no way to use the VSS traction control or anything
thoughts?

Sadly, the instructions shown for this require the vehicle to have a vehicle speed sensor (VSS), and from my understanding, only the automatic 1990-93 miata's had accommodation for this [94 and newer can ignore this because they do have it].

All '90-'97 Miatas have a reed-switch VSS built into the speedo, which is driven by the speedo cable. I know that on the 1.6 cars, it was only wired out to the harness on vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions or cruise control (not certain about the '94-'97 cars) however the switch itself is present on all NAs. On the non-auto/cruise 1.6s, you simply have to run a wire to the back of the speedo.
The switch provides a momentary closure to ground X times per wheel rev, where X is a non-zero integer that I once knew back when I had an EMU, and have long since forgotten. It is available at pin 2F of the instrument cluster.
