Default 90-93 MS Peril install

I'm installing a 90-93 NO AFM MS parrell setup for a friend and it wouldn't start. So I've searched and try doing the FN+GRN and it started up. I don't see any RPM activity on the megatune though. Also I get the message below and I choose no to open up the megatune. Then burn the 90-93 no afm with the ignitor disconnected. Anybody suggestion why the rpm won't show up and how do I go about starting the car with out FP+GRN. I'll do more searching in a mean time.

The error message that you've posted is because the MegaSquirt has had Hi-Rez code flashed into it (which is good) but MegaTune has not been updated with the correct ini file for this code version.

In the package you downloaded with the HiRez code, there was a file included called "msns-extra.ini" This file basically tells MegaTune how to behave in terms of what code it should expect to be communicating with on the other end. The file needs to be copied into c:\program files\megasquirt\megatune2.25\mtcfg\

I see that you have Veesta, and have heard that there is some problem with trying to edit or copy files into the \Program Files\ directory, though since all of my machines are running 2K or XP, I can't really elaborate further on this. Try it, and see if it works.

I bought the ms from rotorjunky, so it's his *.msq that was burned before. Even after I burn the *.msq without afm the title on the window still say's "hires 10g or something like that". The laptop is running windows xp with vista skin, so it shouldn't have no problem with the software.

Download these files:

http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/msq/f...msns-extra.ini
http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/msq/f...extra.ini.hr10

copy them into c:\program files\megatune\megatune2.25\mtcfg\

Open the Megatune Software

go to file > Configurator

under MegaTune2.25, highlight msns-extra.ini.hr10, then go to file activate.

now hit save. and you should be good to go.

The MSQ file contains all of the settings, but it is not the same thing as the code.

I've attached a copy of the correct msns-extra.ini file for your code version. Since I see that you're running the MSPnP build of Megatune, you'll need to install this into C:\Program Files\Megasquirt\MSPNP MM9093 without AFM\

Also, the MSPNP90-93 wihtout AFM MSQ file will be wrong for your MS, so make sure you're using the one RJ gave you.

BTW, it's not necessary to load an MSQ file at all if the MS has already been configured. When you start MegaTune (assuming you've got the ini files right) It'll automagically download all the settings from the megasquirt.

Oh, and there are a bunch of other ini files you'll need from RJ as well. Did he give you the whole MegaTune directory from his computer?

edit: Looks like Brainey beat me to it.

Also, You need to jump F/P and GND in the diagnostics connector. That starts turns on the fuel pump, if you have removed the AFM.

Joe, we straight up tag-teamed that ****.

Supra, here's the instructions that I woudl have gave Rotary when I first built his MS, this might help as well: http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/msq/D...structions.doc

because you will need those three .inc files as well.

No... I downloaded the megatune from a site.

Somehow the rpm is showing now on megatune, but the timing on megatune is 17degrees BTDC? I set it at 10 and burn to ecu and check it with timing light and burn at -10. Also I'm getting a idle droop now. Do I need to do GND+TEN like before or just adjust it with the screw? When I hit 3k rpm it acts like i'm hitting the rev limiter also.

I notice this, but is there a way around this?

Presumably you fixed the .ini file issue.

It's showing you the actual ignition timing, based on the contents of Spark Table 1 for whatever cell you happen to be in at the moment. It should change as you rev the engine.

The deal with setting it to "10", checking with the light, etc., just establishes the baseline. Once that's all done, the ignition timing is suppsed to change. Look at the Spark Table 1, and you'll be able to see the active cell move around as you increase the RPM and MAP.

GND+TEN is now obsolete, since your stock ECU is no longer in control of the ignition. Remove the jumper and forget it ever existed.

When I shift from 1st to 2nd gear it acts like it's hiting the rev limiter also.
There is much to tune, padawan.

See? The cell highlighted in green says 18, so at that instant, your ignition timing was 18° BTDC. (or close to it, as the MS actually extrapolates between the four cells that you happen to be between at any given moment.)

In the background, we see that it was at 17 when focus moved away from the main screen, because your MAP was between two cells, and it extrapolated between them, and when rounded, it came out to 17°.

I dunno. How can I get Cathy from accounting to stop filing complaints against me with HR?

Srsly tho.

You gotta find out what the problem is, and then fix it. Got a datalog showing this event? Be nice to see what the AFR looks like and if anything funky is going on.

There's no AFR data in that log. Do you not have a wideband O2 sensor connected to the MS?

BTW, read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cropping_(image)
