ECU flashing question

ECU flashing question
I dunno if this has been covered or not and i am not sure if i get it either so i will pony up and ask the stupid question.
I have heard several times disconnect the igniters when flashing the ecu. Is this every time you flash on base parameters, everytime you tweak a table and send the changes in. if this question is as silly and pointless as i fear it is just kill me quick but i just wanna be sure i do this right. Also can we tune on the fly via laptop etc or does every change require a reflash of the ECU. I dont much like the idea of stopping the car to change or tweak a map. as i tend to tune while someone else drives and interpret the data and make changes as i go.
Ok i said it now lemme have it where is the answer.

Exactly-- to give you the details of why... the Spark Output setting is very important and the wrong setting for your car will cook your ignitors quickly. The default setting stored in the firmware in NOT right for the 1.6 cars for sure, and I'm pretty sure it's not for the 1.8's either. If you flash the firmware with the ignitors connected you'll cook the ignitors due to this incorrect setting before you have a chance to correct the setting.
