MSPNP with no spark

MSPNP with no spark
Hi everyone,
So i have a MSPNP modded by reverant that is now basically a MSII and uses TunerStudio. I have hooked it up to my car and no matter what I seem to do the car will not start and the engine does not have spark. My setup: 91 Turbo miata...blue injectors (believe theyre out of an rx7) stock everything else besides the turbo and a FMIC. It has a brand new AFM, brand new ignitor and brand new CAS. I feel like it has to be a setting or something in TS that is causing the car not to run. Also, I am getting a weird reading on RPM when i try and start, it will tell me the rpms and then just dissapear and not tell me the RPMS. I was wondering if there is anyone in the NJ area that can come by and help me look at it if they are good with TS? I have been working with reverant to try and figure out the issue but I still have not been able to. Also, if anyone is good with TS and is willing to I can very easily set it up so you can virtually connect to my computer and control all the setting in TS. Whats even more frustrating is that as soon as i put the stock ecu back in the car, it fires right up. Any help you guys can give me is helpful and it just is tough because i know the car runs, just not with the MS.
Thanks,
Tyler

Someone who purchased a DIYPNP from me and installed it last week was having the same issue. RPMS showing up for but then losing connection during cranking, turns out his ignition switch was bad.
Sounds like you could be having the same issue.
If you could take a composite log and datalog during cranking that would help us.

I can do that when i get home. I read that whole thread as well and what was different is that in that thread he said that he was getting disconnected from TS. Where in my case TS stays connected but im just not getting a super solid RPM reading. I will take the datalog when i get home, im just worried about screwing up the ingitor for some reason as i think the ECU caused my original ignitor to go bad. Its pretty confusing why the thing has no spark at all then you put the stock ecu in and bam it starts right up.

Lets take this back to the basics as well and let you guys know everything I am doing when hooking up the ECU just to make sure that im not doing something wrong. Ryan (who i bough the ecu from) told me to take out the ST fuse, I plugged in the IAT sensor to the wires where it is supposed to be, unplugged the TPS (as told by ryan and then grounded it so that TPS on TS reads 0. Is this all correct and is there anything else i should be doin gin order to get this to work? I feel like it has to be or should be something simple that I am overlooking as this is my first MS install. I look forward to hearing back from you guys and I cant say thanks enough in advance. Just really want to get this thing running so that I can tune it. Also maybe someone has a .msq file that will work with this ecu that has an afm? The Currenttune.msq file that came with the ecu from ryan uses the IAT sensor and maybe there is something wrong with it? When i try to load any of the .msq files that you can get from the DIYautotune website they give me a ton of errors.

Hello, Im curious if i was to get COPS from a toyota like everyone seems to do, does th eignitor have to be working? I was wondering this because I was wondering if i could use the bad ignitor that I now have lying around to make this work and then custom make a bracket like most do on the forum? I dont know why but I think that the ECU that was modded by rev is not going to work with a stock ignition setup.

Your TPS wire that you grounded. You just grounded the *signal* wire right? And the 5V reference wire is not connected to anything?
Do you see RPM on your tach when cranking?
Do you see spark when using output test mode?
Yesterday or day before, I asked you to flip your trigger edge. Did you do that yet, and if so, what were the results?

Tried to flip the trigger edge like you suggested and then cycled the ecu multiple times and it didnt work either way... I grounded the signal wire to ground, It was one of the outer wires on the connector. (the other wire as soon as you tough it to ground shuts off the ecu) so I know that one should not be grounded. Ben what are your thought around the fact that the two other people that had this unit (Ryan and Rev) both were running COPS? Do you think I need those in order to make it work and it could have something to do with it?

I do not see RMP an my tach when cranking on TS or on the car from what i can remember. It was very choppy and not a solid reading... I am also attaching the current tune file that i was using as well as the Data log that i captured. Only thing is i cant remember if this data log was taken with the good ignitor or the bad one in the car... But I can assure you it does not have spark at the plugs with the MS in. Screwdriver test works with stock ecu and does nothing with the MS plugged in.. Have not tried output in test mode so i do not know if i see spark...

So is there anyone that would be willing to remote in to my computer while it is hooked up to the car in order to see if i have a setting wrong that would be preventing the car from getting spark? I still want to get this car tuned as with the stock ECU it just bogs out when i try and give it any gas at lower rpms.
Thanks,
Tyler

well, to update everyone, I have been working on getting my car to run better with the stock ECU in it and when i checked the timing it was at 17. I know this is high and i set it to 6 degrees as per research and that is what you are supposed to set it to with the turbo kit. It does run a lot better but it also is not perfect. I have not had the chance to put the MS back into the car yet but hope to do that some time this weekend or one night next week. Once again, if there is anyone that can log in to my laptop remotely (i can set up the one time connection) all you would have to do would be to go to a link that i send you and punch in a code and you would be able to see and control my computer. I would really appreciate this and maybe it is somethign as simple as a setting. Do you think that the timing being this far off could have cause the MS to not work in my car?

ok tried a new tune that I got from Ryan (the guy i bought this ECU from) and it still wont start. Still runs with the stock ecu in it. I have attached the Datalog of the engine cranking as well as the tune i tested. Let me know what you guys think. Im so frustrated with this ECU Its not even funny. Any input is appreciated.

There is clearly something wrong with the cam/crank input, we have already established that. It will NOT start unless you get a solid, consistent RPM reading. Which you should be getting with the "Falling edge" setting.
