1.8L Engine of Unknown Origin
I got this lump in a trade a couple of years ago with plans to go through it for my NA6. When I got it, the head was loose so I pulled it to check out the bores (which look really good, actually). The PO tried to take the "mazda" off of the valve cover with an angle grinder and it looked shitty, so I milled one side. I think it looks pretty cool, but the VC isn't perfect. The head seems good, but I don't really know for sure. Intake is included.
Thinking $100? Can't ship it.

The head is dead flat.
Some gunk on the valves. I scraped a little off. I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem like a big deal.
Representative cylinder. Gunk that fell off of the head from sitting on the piston. I blew out the cylinders before I put it back together.

Hey, I know that motor! Lol, I was the guy you got it from. I got it on a trade almost five years ago for some neon parts. Supposedly came out of a 96, but I never confirmed the vin on the pan. Looks exactly as it did two years ago!

Looks like an NA8 engine to me, with a Protege (?) valve cover. The BP05 head is one of the hydraulic lifter 1.8L heads from the NA8 era. The rear heater hose housing looks Miata, as does the front thermostat housing.
EDIT: you can also tell it is post-95 as the oil gallery bolt on the drivers side isn't there.
