Default Oh shiii-- the y8s twin plate clutch is for sale (w/fidanza flywheel) SOLD

Yup, you read right. I'm finally cleaning out my shed of Miata parts.

Specs in brief:
  • Fidanza 161167 flywheel for miatas/7.25" clutches
  • Tilton Rallye twin plate 66-302UBF (ultra high ratio, buf spring) clutch cover, pressure plate, and floater
  • Clutchnet custom made 7.25" clutch disks (organic, VERY thin marcel)
  • Custom made shortened clutch fork pivot and lengthened slave push rod.

I'm going to let this go for a bargain basement price because it is somewhat of a project piece. The flywheel alone was about $320 new. For around $90 you can get a new friction surface with hardware from Fidanza (be sure to check with them that you get the kit with longer attachment hardware--should be about 1-1/8 long).

The clutch cover/spring should be good to go with a cleaning. You'll want to get new floater plates (ultra high ratio pressure plate!).

I'm including an array of used cerametallic and organic disks just so you have them. You might be able to find a shop that can re-line them if you can't have custome ones made outright. Or you can buy tilton cerametallic disks off the shelf.

I'm also including ONE (you need two...) new organic disk.

There's also all the used floater plates, pressure plates, and flywheel friciton plates. Note that one pressure plate is high ratio and may not work properly in a miata with stock hydraulics.

There are clutch cover mounting screws and the fork pivot and the push rod and BONUS: a clutch alignment tool!

The whole shebang:

The one unused organic disk. Not sure why I have one.

All of the parts again:

Vintage photo from before it went in the car:

I'm inclined to let this go for $100 shipped (it's heavy with all the parts).

If you play your cards right, you can have it fully functional for a few hundred bucks more. Which if you think about it is CHEAP. If you race, you're already scheming. Note also that this flywheel (worth the price alone) will work with most off the shelf 7-1/4" clutches, whether single or double plate.

A little bit about the clutch:
The organic version is very streetable and very awesome. It's a little noisy but holds power incredibly well. It revs faster than any standard miata clutch setup short of some exotic ones that nobody has. It's like a motorcycle. The assembly is around 19-20 lbs.

I have also run the cerametallic disks on the street. Don't. You can but you'll hate it. They are brutally unforgiving. The tires will slip easier than your clutch. If you're not really starting from a stop much (i.e. racing) it's not too much an issue.

The downside of this clutch is the increased wear rate. If you're ok changing a clutch out more often, then it wont matter. It is the biggest comprormise with the twins. You get all that power holding with excellent pedal feel and you trade off service life. I had a long commute and this was my daily driver. I decided after a few changes it wasn't worth it anymore. If it was a second car and not a commuter, then it might have remained in the car.

Bottom line: if you want an inexpensive and awesome clutch to hold your silly turbo power levels, send me a message. I'll get you started acquiring the necessary parts to make it work. You may still have to do some of your own legwork to get new organic disks.

Please increase your street cred and help clean out my shed.

Matt

New clutchnet discs are $125 each.

I got mine resurfaced for $50 each.

Y8s. If you have 2 spare I might take 2 organic discs off your hands so I can get them resurfaced as needed and have minimal downtime.

I'll try and get some measurements to compare to.

The NB top cover boot doesn't happen to be a black canvas or Sunbrella or whatever the hell that is called one does it?

Also, would you spilt the NB2 steering wheel and air bag. Don't need the air bag.

The boot is OEM vinyl.

I would prefer not to split the airbag / wheel, but maybe. Do people buy airbags alone?

The joy of launching things with an airbag is worth more than someone will pay.
