Default Getting a Greddy in like 2 days

hey everyone.. im a complete newb in the world of turbos so please bear with me.

i have a 1990 miata with 53xxx og miles. the previous owner had taken the car to Tripoint for EVERYTHING for the car. right now, as i type.. my car is at mazda getting the 60k tune up.

im a little nervous. ive been on this site reading and trying to learn as much as i can about turbos but i still feel like i dont know a single thing lol.
i just bought a greddy 1.6 kit from evilbay. im not even sure what the kit comes with.. but description said it would come with everything i needed.

so apart from the basic greddy kit.. what else would i need? after reading everyones set up.. i feel that just having the kit on would make my car unsafe haha. my main goal is to have about 160 -170ish rwhp with reliability.

if someone could just explain what i would need on top of the greddy kit i would greatly appreciate their help thanks

you can throw the kit on and walk away with 130-140rwhp safely.

my first suggestions would be:
  1. click my FAQ link for more in depth info on turbocharging your ride
  2. upgrade the hardware (nuts and bolts) to grade 8 stuff
  3. make sure you have a full tank high octane gas in before the installation
  4. pick up a Bipes ACU
  5. take your time, have fun, ask us for help
as far as making your goals of 160-170rwhp; it's quite easy with a few simple upgrades.

Dont forget the timing retard if you dont have the bipes. Makes sure you keep retarding it until you hear no ping or else that low mileage motor of your will be toast in no time. Greddy recomendes retarding to 6* but mine pinged until 4. At that you have no low end power whatsoever so your going to need a timing contoller. With just the base Greddy kit your car will still be reliable so dont worry about being unsafe. Also dont forget to do the manifold cuts so that it doesnt crack. Other then that, you learn as you install. dont worry about not knowing anything without the experiance. not many of us did until we actually go our hands dirty. Just dont be stupid and make silly mistakes, take your time, and have fun with it.

I had wondered if you were still on that.
I need to find a place to link it.

Add an intercooler and fuel to help you reach your goals.

OT: Did you just recently buy that c-wings front lip? More pics?
