Greddy help
1st off my car is running AWESOME!!!
Friend picked up a 1992 with a Greddy kit. It runs but runs like crap. Best that I can tell its got:
1.6L
Greddy turno kit
ETD manifold
RX-7 air meter
FMU
Some after market exhaust after the greddy DP
Seems to hesitate under load when accelerating starts about 3500RPM than smooths out about 5000RPM. Pulled the plugs and they were all sooty black and the #1 plug was wet with Gas.
Pulled the WG arm so no boost. I replaced the Plugs, wires and drove it. Same problem not as bad but still there. nd than pulled the plugs....same thing after 5 miles they are all black and the #1 is wet with gas.
I pulled the fuel injectors and I cant tell but the #1 was missing the small needle like thing in the middle of the injector. Think I need some new injectors.
So back to the other 3 plugs being sooty and black. What is the normal disk to use in the FMU for a 5psi greddy kit to lean it out? What else could cause what I think to be to much fuel?
Help!
PS: I know a MS would solve it but friend is looking for a budget DD

Yeah i agree with supersaiyan93. Remove the Rx7 AFM and put yours in (if you have one) and check if theres improvement. The disc on the Greddy package is 12:1 (unless the pre owner swapped it). The tan injectors are from the 1.8 and maybe that why your running so rich because your only at 5psi. Its a good idea to check the timing on that car just to see what the pre owner put it at. It should be at 8*
Good luck!

With the 12:1 disc (we guessing is in there) and the stock 1.6 inj it should run right. If someone put in the tan top 1.8 inj wouldn't that just make it really rich??? I can only guess that of the 12:1 was set up from greddy for 1.6inj the 1.8 inj would make it rich....right?

stock pump?

Glad you fixed the problem.
The GReddy runs rich right out of the box at it's stock settings. Assuming you're adding the appropriate band-aids, turning up the boost with the 12:1 disk will make it run even more rich until the 1.6 inj lock open.
It kinda depends on the condition of your fuel pump really. I dumped the 12:1 disk as soon as i could. With the 12:1 disk, even at 5 psi, you'll be seeing 100psi through the fuel lines if you have a high pressure fuel pump, or definitely maxing out your stock fuel pump if it's working to specs. If your fuel pump is crapping out, who knows?
Take five minutes to open your FMU to check the disk size and start monitoring your fuel pressure. With the GReddy, you'll need this baseline info because you have to keep track of so many variables as you adjust boost. The next time you see something strange going on, you'll be able to eliminate things like the fuel pump or FMU issues.
Edit: Just read Brains relpy. He's a man of fewer words.
