Default Checked Wastegate and Shaft Play, STILL RATTLES

Alright. I'm as frustrated as ever. My car is making a weird rattling/ shaking/scratching/scraping noise. I mainly notice it around 2-3k rpm range and mainly during deceleration. It isn't constant either, it kindov peaked for a second or two then fades away. I'm no expert, but i checked my wastegate and it doesn't appear to be lose or rattling. It doesn't really sound like a noise the wastegate would make either. have listened under my hood for a long time and can't quite nail the noise down. I thought it might be shaft play, as the noise sounds like it is coming from the turbo area, so I pulled off the piping and pushed and spun the shaft and it didn't really feel like it was loose at all, it was tight on there, no shaft play that I could tell. Sometimes It spun more freely than other times, but it wasn't terribly resistant. The noise started shortly after I got my 2.5" exhaust w/ no cat put on. I'm thinking it is probably just a coincidence though. Anyone have any ideas for me???? Is it possibly my oil feed line is plugged or isn't working right, would that cause this?

its your flanges that are boltted on to your exhaust where the catalitic used to be. or if you have the cat isntalled its the flanges there. this happens to my car too. its anoying but what the heck. make sure you have aligned everything and tighten it good. if it doesnt work then cut the falnges and reweld them. to check if its the catback look under while accelerating and yo will notice the rattle.

Did you change the clutch? Does it go away when the clutch pedal is pressed in?

I haven't changed the clutch. I took my car back to the exhaust shop today and had them take a listen. The noise sounds like it is something spinning or rotating. From under the car it sounds as though it may be coming from the transmission they said. That would probably make sense as my car has 144K miles on it. Since I bought the car the transmission has make sort of a squealing noise upon decelleration. I don't know a whole lot about transmissions, but I'd guess that a bearing is going out in the tranny. Are transmissions worth messing with?

better off buying a used one if its really the transmission.. they're usually around $175.. sometimes cheaper if you find them advertised on m.net.

My diff made a annoying scraping sound before it died only on deceleration and in the low rpm range. Weird thing is that it seemed to go away when I applied the brakes a little. Just another thing you might want to check.

I'm sure you also checked, but another annoying rattle I found a long time ago was a loose heat shield on the car.
