TSE EFR NB2 Build Thread

The only true GL4 stuff you are going to find is ghetto "Coastal" brand dinosaur squeezings or a specialty fluid like the Amsoil. Amsoil Synchromesh and Pennzoil Synchromesh are products that exist specifically because of this issue. The MTG GL4 or Synchromesh have the additive packages and properties that allow enough friction in the synchro to let it actually ...sync.
I dunno, I use Redline MT-90 in my car. I know it's not cool any more, but it's never been an issue for me.

Alright, im going to try Adian's concoction and see what happens. If I dont like it ill drain it and try something else. But I have a feeling it will do the trick.
Andrew, be expecting me to give you more monies.
And Mods, feel free to move this over to the media(build thread) section.

If you haven't already add 1qt of Amsoil Severe Gear (SVGQT) 75W-90 for the diff fill as long as you are placing a fluids order
@aidandj: just to be clear, you are using 1qt of Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTFQT) 5w-30 and 1 qt of Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube (MTGQT) 75W-90 in a 6 speed, is that right?
I'm not having synchro issues in the Miata, but I have a WRX that is notchy as frig...

Yes. And it is what works for me. I believe @hi_im_sean runs the same or similar.
People have also had good results from just straight MTG.

I put syncromesh in everything.
Im not a believer in fixing things with fluid. But it has made a 5 speed that was undrivable on track due to 3rd gear grind work flawlessly for 2 drivers over 2 seasons. Its also what makes certain new venture trans work at all.

The guys at Mazda shield the trans from the exhaust at ~100whp. I think at 2 or 3 times that power you may make even more heat. Use metal with an air gap like the factory did.
BTW, the corrosion fears for header wrap are unfounded. If thin, thin, thin wall headers made of mild steel on musclecars can use them for decades, how long is heavy wall mild steel going to last in the desert of southern California? How about thick wall aluminized steel? Stainless steel? If it was mild steel on a winter beater in Michigan it wouldn't matter then either because the whole car wouldn't last 10 years.

Because a metal shield with an air gap is more effective at reflecting radiant heat.
There is actually a heatshield you can get off of amazon that uses clamps, brackets, and soft heatshielding material to create a shield with an air gap. It's very cheap and effective. I use it myself. Let me find the link.

I also stopped by Trackspeed today and have acquired the oils. He didnt have any synchromesh so I just got 2qt of the SVG. If it still crunches 5th I will drain a qt and put synchromesh in. Also got diff oil and fancy pump.

All clean
Yesterday I flushed the tranny and diff oil. It did nothing btw, still crunches 5th pretty bad.
Tranny Drain plug
I got this pump from Andrew. If you don't have one, go buy it. Ive been using one of those harbor freight pumps and it was a piece of ****. The hoses would always pop out under pressure and make a huge mess. So for the whopping $13 I paid for this pump, I was able to keep the garage floor dry, my hands dry, and the tranny and diff actually received all of the their oil. Win.
Also, I realized I never posted any pics of the harness that came in a couple weeks ago, so here:
Im glad I went with the Schroth, it feels so quality.
Also, big things happened. Huge things. I don't have pics of said things yet. So you will have to wait in suspense of what these things are.
