Hooverspeed takes 2nd in new Turbo Miata at Runoffs
Hooverspeed ran the #98 car with a newly installed turbo in STU and took second, not too shabby for that cars maiden race! Of course Marc's driving had a lot to do with it
Look for it at the NASA races out here on the left coast.
Here is some video

With some tweaking it should be even faster, Marc compiled a big list of things to do on it before the next race.
Also we should have a few seats left for the 25 hour at Thunderhill if anyone wants to drive this December. Check out our website at http://hooverspeed.com for more info.

I've been meaning to start a thread about this car.
More details about the turbo set-up? Is it just a MSM engine swap?
I was looking at the car a little in the tech-shed but the crew guy there didn't know enough about the car to answer my questions (or he did and he just didn't want to answer my questions). I did notice the big *** Porsche brakes on the car...
The car is/was stupid fast though. Fastest SM lap of the week was 2:43.3. Fastest lap for the STU miata was 2:28.5. It seems a lot of guys here like to use SM track records as a metric for how fast they are going. Hoover was ~15s a lap faster on a 4.0 mile track, and that was 15s a lap faster than the fastest SMs in the country.
Seems like STU could be a good place for some of you guys running caged cars to run, as opposed to ITE that is.

I need to build a car like it with a cage and figure out where I want to race. I was kind of looking at SPO because I like the Idea of doing more engineering and going even faster. Plus I think I could make the car highly effective as a dual purpose car to be used for autocross XP I think if I eliminate the Idea of daily driving it as I do now. An STU car would get killed running aganst a nationally competative car in XP at an autocross.

We will have the STU car at Auto club Speedway in Fontana CA for the Porterfield Brakes National/Double Regional - January 20-22, 2012.
We did some more tuning and will be doing some testing at Thunderhill before the race in Fontana. I am guessing we will set another class record this year. I can tell you that we had to upgrade to a Mustang trans to handle the power the turbo added to this thing. The conversion went really well and the T5 trans fits great.
Additionally we took 2nd place at the 25 hours in one of our E3 cars (The one I crew chiefed of course, #96). I had a great bunch of drivers and we had a blast, we had some contact and had to roll out a front fender and had a few flats and it cost us, the other E3 (#98)car got ran over by something BIG and we had to rebuild the front end, that car was headed for a win for sure before that happened, still came in 5th though. RJ Racing took the win, they ran a great race.
