Has anybody heard what this is about? Found it on a Mzdaspeed email, hope that this means stronger gears for the 5speed, i would love to put my 5 speed back on...
• Launch of the Mazda Motorsports’ 5-speed transmission and parts - produced by EMCO Gears to replace and to be an upgrade to the old PBS MDR 5-speed transmission. Many of the new transmission parts made by EMCO can be used in the old PBS gearbox. That would be great if they follow through and keep the price below Quaife sequential bucks. Everyone I know with the old PBS gearbox is really happy for that, and this sounds like they're basically reintroducing it.

Wonder if they will give a torque range they think it will hold. it is a straight cut dog box. with really customizable individual ratios. interesting it doesn't have a 1.00 ratio every gear runs through the secondary shaft but it has a quick change final drive set that can be changed quickly without taking it out of the car.

looks like pricing is $9,980 plus probably some parts to fit it to a Miata. not exactly cheap.

Default Another 6 speed bites the dust.

Mr BBundy, when the 4th gear loses it's teeth, have you noticed if there are any signs of pitting on those teeth?
Reason I ask is that I have never seen broken teeth from pure torque - only from shock loadings (but I have lead a sheltered life...).
If I remember correctly, you stated that the sprung clutch you tried possibly had too-weak springs, allowing hitting the end stops - could this be the cause of a shock load, that may not be that massive, but on top of a large torque load, was the straw that broke the camel's back?
A centre plate with stronger (multi) springs may smooth the firing pulses enough to reduce the 'straw' to sustainable levels.
It may also be worth calculating if there is an engine order/gear ratio coincidence that is causing a spike on top of your peak torque.
Does your propshaft have a rubber connector at either/both ends? - Might be another avenue to explore - may seem 'after the fact', but it acts as another absorber of torque spikes.

All the above may be completely useless, but just in case...

Hm, that's not too much worse than the PBSes were when they were available new. Hope it comes loaded with a gearset at that price though. They advertised the PBS box as being suitable for GTO with the right parts, so it seems like it should hold up pretty well.
