Chassis stiffening - which parts are good?
#83
I'm not a cone dodger. Didn't realize CSP was an autox class. I was thinking it must be like ITA, SSC, TTB, SM, PTE, and the miriad other road racing classes Miatas run in. Sorry to have shown my complete ignorance of parking lot time trials.
Of course in CSP about the only chassis stiffening allowed are strut bars. Since floppy is good I'm sure none of the top Miatas use strut bars as that would stiffen the car and add weight! (read sarcasm here...)

But if you're racing vs someone with the same class rules, he'll have the same power as you and will be doing 0.1 second on you in corners. And often that much is the difference between winning and losing ...

It has nothing to do with making a car faster or stiffer ...
Actually in the past at world level races (think world rally) I've heard about teams cheating with paper weight rollcages (just looking like real real cages, etc.) Of course much more people died back then too - in the Group B era ...

please stop putting smiley faces in every damn post j man. Thank You And if you consider bracing to be "bling" then I dont know what your problem is. If a 2000lb NA miata at 200whp with every bit of factory bracing stripped, which isnt much on NAs, and no extra support went head to head with a 300whp NA miata at 2300lbs with its fair share of bracing to give it a firm car feel, both having "the stig" as a driver I bet you the heavier would win In autocross, roadraces, drag, whatever you name it. I think you havent felt the effects of racing a stable car after adding REAL support. And im not talking "strut tower bars" here. I understand lightweight is very very important on a racecar but you need to remember so is balance

With more power comes a need of bracing. It was mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread. Right now im just arguing how at times, bracing is needed not only to keep the driver safe, but to improve on the car as a whole. This guy somehow believes, or implied, that bracing is only for the street

And I consider all that bracing I have bling + NVH, because that's what it is.

I am not saying the extra power doesn't improve times. We were talking about the braces and lap times.
If you take a peek at SSM class nationally prepped turbo or supercharged high hp Miatas, you'll notice the same thing - all factory bracing is stripped just like the CSP cars.

Didn't know black painted tubing under the car (that is factory) was bling. I guess I can get the hoes even easier now.

Thread drift.
I just replaced the shocks on my 05 Dodge Quad Cab 4x4. Got everything out to do the job - impact wrench, spring compressor, etc.
Imagine my surprise when I pulled off the front wheel and all that is in there is a shock - no spring.
All that the truck runs is a shock and a 1 1/2" sway bar. No coil springs at all. I guess it just caught me off guard. That said, the shock job was very painless.
