Tookico lowering springs any good?
#8
Good thing I thought to ask first eh? I have 202,000 miles on the stock springs and around 100,000 on the stiffer bilstien shocks. I'd say it's time to replace those things. My friend has red KYB 8 way adjustable shocks and some black lowering springs with Flyin' Miata top hats in the rear. His car stays realy flat and it's still nice of most bumps. I'm thinking he's got Eibach springs? IDK.
So I was thinking of buying either new OEM springs or something slightly lower around an inch or so and some Koni yellows or the KYB red adjustables I don't remember the model lol AGX I think? Nothing insane but no cheap performance either. What's a good spring for either of these shocks? I already have RB anti-sway bars front and rear and 'ok' Dunlop DZ101 tires.

What are your goals for the car?
Autox beastie? Track beater? Canyon carver? Street cruiser?
There's a ton of info m.net. Just follow the links in my sig.

Step 1 remove rear sway so car isn't *** happy.
Step 2 Better dampers.
I liked the feel of stock springs with good dampers. I actually got shocks and springs off a wrecked MSM and it owns the tokicos and ghey springs, and tokicos and stock springs. I did fairly decent in sts with that set up on star specs. However, now that i am not in a queerby class anymore, i must get real suspension and buy slicks.

Well I mostly tear up the canyons and sometimes road coarse and autocross. It gets lots of daily driving but the roads here are smooth in most areas. The canyon roads have a lot of rough worn pavement and they use tar to seal the cracks so there's a hole lot of small clickity clack bumps in the twisties.
I always thought that removing the rear sway bar was only used for autocross? I will have to do some more searching I think.

Depends on your budget, I'd start with at least FM Stage 1 kit with FM 1" front sway.
If you end up too low, I have FCM spring risers, that'll bring you back up 0.5".
Get FCM goodies. They're worth it.
On the higher side, you have a selection of coilovers, but, they're well above $1500 (good ones).

If you get them from FM and they fail, they'll replace them free of charge.

Illuminas are great shocks. They're just not performance shocks. Not in a true sense.
Konis stand to track abuse a little better, but, they will too perish given enough time.
Bilstein, Tein, Ohlins, that's the stuff for continuous pounding on the berms.
As far as Tokico springs, they simple fall under "lowering springs are horrible crap" fact.
