The guys at Trackspeed are stripping a 99 for me. Going to acid dip Monday. Maybe somewhere in there we can get it weighed before it gets dipped.

That would be cool to see and compare to the 91 weight to see if the shell really is lighter than the early NA.

Done and loaded on the trailer ready for delivery to the acid dipper.
It would be interesting to see what the weight difference is before and after the dip.

Acid ipping should make a real difference. Even caustic dipping which just removes the non-metal crap on the tub. I've already taken off more than 25lbs of sound deadener and undercoating with wire wheels. But I can't get an accurate weight because I've also trimmed off brackets, cut out wheelwells and removed the windshield frame.

Lots of guys have gutted doors, but the bare door shells on the early NA weighed 32lbs and I trimmed them down to 11lbs. That included removing the impact bar on the outer skin and the complete inner portion of the door.

Please don't whine about unsafe door lightening. This isn't a track car. It's an autocross car. And there will be serious issues with the "cage" that slant towards stiffness and low-n-light weight at the cost of impact protection.

Stock door with all unboltable parts removed first, then two of the gutted door.

Body parts that serve no function add 137lbs to my car?! Hmm....

Even the 2 feet of garage space I'd gain front and back is tempting.

495 lbs before. 461 lbs after so 34 lbs lost in acid dip. The steel does not look severely etched plus all the plastic and rubber plugs survived. So I think that's just paint, tar and undercoat weight.

Not much for forum build threads so the blog will be it.

Did the acid dipping take the bondo off, contributing slightly to the 34 pounds lost?
Good news all those plastic bits survived. Let us know when you don't have enough time to put it back together. Can't want to drive this thing and .
