Launch Control
I thought the whole idea of launch control was to retard timing in order to build boost. Is the Adaptronic launch control function really this, or is it just another rev limiter that cuts ignition and/or fuel. I can only build about 1psi while using this.
I don't actually ever use it, but once in a while I like being a ricer. |
The launch control feature in my ECU is akin to a secondary rev limit. If I had a speed sensor, I could set it up to read a specific speed and switch back to the normal rev limit at that point after I was moving forward. I used it in my previous car with the stock speed sensor, and while it does not necessarily help build boost on its own, when used in conjunction with the handbrake and slight clutch slip, I could get about 8psi.
Timing retard is used for antilag, and that does build/hold boost buy extending part of the combustion process outside the cylinder on the exhaust side. |
Adaptronic allows for spark and injector cut and allows you to set a speed for it to shut off so let say you set it for 3 mph, If you're going at 5 mph, it will turn off and rev like normal however under 3 it will bounce at whatever rpm you have it set.
The only thing i havent found on adaptronic is how to retard timing in the negative 30s-40s. |
Yes, the launch control is just an different rev limiter that is engaged below a preset speed, and the idea of it is to limit wheel spin at low speeds before switching over to full traction control.
If you want to build boost while stationary you need to use the retard+enrich feature instead. |
Care to show a guide or few quick steps on how to do that Bored?
|
For anti-lag and launch control:
1) Configure some logical outputs such to be (clutch engaged AND RPM > 2000). 2) Configure the corresponding logical digital input to be "enrich+retard". 3) Adjust the enrich+retard setting to add lots of fuel and pull out lots of timing. You'll have to figure out how much by experimentation. This will give you both some anti-lag between shifts if you use the clutch while flat shifting, and also give you the ability to build boost while stationary with foot on clutch. It will also let you overheat your turbo, damage your catalytic converter, and generally break things if you don't know what you're doing, so don't come crying to me about it if you decide to enable this feature. :) |
Sweet let the flames out the tailpipe begin!!! :D
Wheres the clutch engaged at? |

You could hack around that by: 1) Using VSS < 2 instead clutch to have this only activated when stationary, assuming you have a VSS hooked up; or 2) Set up a physical aux output to > 2000rpm and wire that through a clutch switch (or relay) onto a digital input. |

EDIT: found it; Special Functions tab. |
Did this end up working? It sounds too easy to be true.
|
I never tried it. I know the launch control works (which is basically a low rpm redline) but never tried enriching a lot and retarding the timing to do an anti lag effect.

Let me guess, youre holding the throttle wide open?

My comment was directed at the OP.
90% of the time when someone is complaining about luanch control not working well its because they are WOT. You want to throttle it so that you get a fast bounce on the limiter. Even without added fuel or ignition retard you should be able to build more than 1 psi if youre throttling it on the limiter correctly. |
I usually did about 50% or so. I really never use it, but you can't blame me for wanting to be a ricer on Wednesdays.
Dem, I tried to mess with the settings, but I don't think I had anything change. |
Try varrying the amount of throttle you use until you get it to bounce off the limiter as fast as possible. There should be a sweet spot where it starts bouncing fast like a streetbike, then it will start popping and many boosts will be had.

Setup mine like this -
Aux out: 11- Inverted VSS 3/3 (vehicle speed below 3) 12- RPM above 3700 13- AND 11/12 Digital input: 13 - Enrich/Retard active high Special functions tab: Enrich/Retard Fuel 10% Retard 30 http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/2474/outputis.png http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/9126/digitalin.png |
Sweet shall try it later :P

Videos please.
Convenient time to find this |

On the Launch control do u have it cutting both fuel and ignition or what.
|
Just ignition. I like fire.
|
Launch control != antilag
e: this is antilag: |
My pops are muffled.
Also when you're changing the timing in the enrich/retard thing make sure you go PLUS 30, not NEGATIVE 30...go 5 degrees at a time to be sure. |

Right- the function is to 'retard' ignition. So it you type in '30' it retards the ignition 30 degrees.
|
Finally got around to trying it and it does what I want. Ricer Sundays, already had one neighbour yell at me within 5 minutes.
Thanks for the setup. |
Hahaha :)

How bad an idea is this for me to setup when I still have a cat in the exhaust??
How long will it last? |
Your cat won't last long. EGTs can spike to 1700-1800 degrees under a hard retard event like antilag. Its also hard on everything in the way of the exhaust actually, valves included.

Its ok you can hollow it out after.
|
If there was a thumbs up, I would be giving it to that post ;)
